Animal Crossing: New Horizons players in the northern hemisphere are eagerly enjoying the game's winter wonderland. With the seasonal shift comes the opportunity to do things like build perfect snowmen, but there are seemingly some rare dangers, as well.

One player found themselves in an unusual situation while they briefly set their controller down. While many have likely seen New Horizons bugs occasionally moving gathered snow around, in this particular situation, the player found themselves on the receiving end of a surprise snowball attack.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons players who have owned the game since the start are likely well familiarized with the game's dung beetles. Only appearing for a couple of months in the winter, the bugs which are known for their rolling skills will sometimes make off with a ball of snow, pushing it around. This skill was put to the test during the particular encounter.

Redditor AJayySim took a moment amid landscaping their island town to take a sip of a drink in real life. The video they shared takes place during this brief idle moment. Their player can be seen standing at the base of a cliffside as a giant snowball above them starts to roll around. The bug behind it becomes visible shortly after, and after a moment of pushing, the ball falls off the cliff, crashes onto the player's head, and visibly forces them back somewhat as the snowball splits apart. The dung beetle then promptly flies away.

AJayySim seemed quite amused by the encounter, with the poster and commenters joking about the dung beetle having attempted murder via snowball. Thankfully, as some pointed out, the player was in construction mode and therefore wearing a construction helmet. Others took the opportunity to complain about dung beetles' antics during the winter in general, as those attempting for perfect snowboys have sometimes had their efforts ruined by a dung beetle randomly moving one of their snowballs around and changing its size.

Though the game is approaching its second birthday, Animal Crossing: New Horizons continues to provide entertainment and amusing moments like these for its fans. Animal Crossing: New Horizons' recent content update helped to breathe new life into the title, but rare moments like these are part of what keep fans playing. Bugs can be rare, valuable, and even dangerous, but being crushed under a small mountain of snow by a dung beetle is likely to be something the player won't soon forget.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available now for Nintendo Switch.
