Animal Crossing: New Horizons was one of the biggest video game releases of 2020, and so it makes sense that Nintendo has continued to support the game with free content updates. Now that Animal Crossing: New Horizons is well over a year old, many expected Nintendo to move on to other projects, but it seems that it's going to continue releasing new content for New Horizons fans, with enough coming that it will warrant its very own Nintendo Direct presentation.

Nintendo used its latest Nintendo Direct event to shine the spotlight on some content that it has planned for Animal Crossing: New Horizons. It revealed that the popular NPC Brewster and his cafe are finally coming to the game as part of a free content update dropping in November. Judging by the short teaser Nintendo put out, Brewster's cafe in Animal Crossing: New Horizons will be added as part of a Museum expansion, though how exactly it all goes down remains to be seen.

Nintendo plans to reveal all about the big Animal Crossing: New Horizons fall update at a special Animal Crossing Nintendo Direct in October. Unfortunately, Nintendo stopped short of providing a specific date for its Animal Crossing Nintendo Direct event, but it promised that more information will come soon. It will be interesting to see if it focuses exclusively on the big fall update, or if it reveals some of the plans Nintendo has in store for Animal Crossing: New Horizons in 2022.

Nintendo has not released any paid DLC for Animal Crossing: New Horizons to date, and while that's good for fans who are enjoying the free content, one would think that a paid expansion would allow for a more substantial upgrade. It would be interesting to see what form an Animal Crossing: New Horizons paid expansion would take, and if the content was worthwhile enough, one has to imagine that it would not only keep current players entertained but bring back lapsed players as well.

While fresh content is definitely exciting, there are things that Animal Crossing: New Horizons fans can focus on in the more immediate future as well. The Animal Crossing: New Horizons Halloween event is right around the corner, giving players the chance to participate in Trick-or-Treat and acquire seasonal furniture items.

With October right around the corner, Nintendo should be providing details about the Animal Crossing Nintendo Direct soon. For now, Animal Crossing: New Horizons fans can prepare their islands for the upcoming seasonal events.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is out now, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
