One of Nintendo's biggest upcoming exclusives for the Nintendo Switch returned to the spotlight during the E3 2019 Nintendo Direct. Welcome back Animal Crossing, now with the fancy subtitle of New Horizons. Animal Crossing: New Horizons looks to be a familiar experience for fans of the franchise, capturing the classic cartoony Animal Crossing style with improved Nintendo Switch visuals. However, in unfortunate news, the new Animal Crossing has been delayed out of 2019.

The short Animal Crossing: New Horizons trailer showed off much of the gameplay that fans will expect. From picking apples to mining rare minerals, players will be collecting and gathering to earn bells like every Animal Crossing game. And much like all games previous, those bells will first be going to none other than Tom Nook. Nook reprises his role in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, taking advantage of the player's productiveness but also providing them with plenty of very cool house upgrades along the way.

As befits Tom Hook, all that he'll provide players at the start of Animal Cross: New Horizons is a small tent. It'll be up to the player to earn enough bells to afford upgrades to the tent. One of the perks of the tent, however, is that it can be placed in unique areas including on the beach.

Two new features in Animal Crossing: New Horizons include DIY Recipes and the ability to place items outside of your home. DIY Recipes are, as the name implies, a crafting system to make tools, furniture, clothing items and more. They'll require items found the area, as usual, which the player will have to discover on their own. Placing items is also self-explanatory. Pick up and place items outside of the home and decorate in a completely new way compared to previous Animal Crossing games.

Instead of launching in 2019, Animal Crossing: New Horizons will be launching March 20, 2020. Many Animal Crossing fans had been expecting a delay, given that it has been so long since the game was first announced during a Nintendo Direct in September 2018. Luckily, the new Animal Crossing game looks incredible, so fans of the franchise will probably be more than willing to wait a few extra months to try the game out.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons releases March 20, 2020 exclusively on Nintendo Switch.
