Animal Crossing: New Horizons is one of the best selling games in the UK and the world right now, and players are clamoring the build the best of all islands. With a massive array of creatures and plants and fossils to grab, players are always looking for an easy way to line their pockets with bells to buy amazing furniture. A critter that sells for a lot of bells is the very dangerous tarantula. Lucky for money-lovers though, there's a great way to farm them.

The Tarantula

There isn't much that can injure or knock players on out the wholesome, little islands of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, but the tarantula is one of them. One bite causes the player to pass out and wake up in their home. After donating one to the museum (or not if players are frustrated with Blather's museum), they can get a massive 8,000 bells per spider collected. That's an easy way to start paying down debts to the Nooks and fill their homes with bling.

Unfortunately, these viscous little critters don't spawn very often normally and can sometimes attack before the unwary player gets a chance to catch them. But there is an easy way to farm them and get all those bells with a little less risk to the avatar's well being. And that's making or finding a Spider Island.

Tarantula Island

While the phrase "Tarantula Island" might sound like a horror movie to most people, finding one in Animal Crossing: New Horizon is much more business prospect instead of terror fest. It takes a little bit of luck, work, and a lot of patience, but the payout makes it well worth it. Think of all the money those little furry biters are worth.

And the best part of collecting all of these tarantulas is that spider-lovers can keep one of these little furry nightmares as a pet, thanks to a weird glitch. So grabbing up a bunch of tarantulas is a win for everyone.

Finding the Island

There are two ways players can get themselves a Tarantula Island. The first way is to find it, which takes some luck. First, players will have to buy a ticket for the Mystery Island Tours. The tickets can be bought with 2,000 Nook Miles at the machine at Resident Services, so players will have to quickly earn some Nook Miles for this trick. Once it's after 7pm on the island, go to Dodo Airlines and choose to Redeem Nook miles and take a Mystery Island Tour. This will bring players to a random island.

The Spider Island is an island with a circular river that creates a second, smaller island in the center. Now players can get ready to catch some spiders. But just as a note: this currently only works with Northern Hemisphere locations due to the seasonality of bugs, unless a Southern Hemisphere player is okay with the whole time traveling controversy, and seems to only work at night. If players don't get the right island the first time, they can try again for as long as they have the miles to keep paying for tickets.

Making the Island

Players can also make their own Tarantula Island with some elbow grease. First, players have to remove all the spawn points for bugs that aren't tarantulas. So they need to break all the rocks, dig up all the trees, pluck all the flowers without digging them up, catch all the bugs, and maybe even drop some items on the beach to prevent bug spawns. Players can also dig some extra holes as makeshift spider traps as well.

Eating fruit in Animal Crossing can also help players to clear the island fast, so bring some food along. This will make rocks easier to break, and trees easier to dig up. The fruits will give players a boost to strength, giving them the edge they'll need to completely clear the island. Once players have the island all set up, it's time to hunt some spiders. Keep in mind that one spider goes for 8,000 bells, so any amount of spiders a player can pick up will be a big boost to their wallet.

Catching These Bugs

Now players should have tons of spiders to catch. There are a few things players can do to get a little better at catching these bugs. They are pretty mean, so they'll need an edge to be able to catch these venomous critters.

  • Study their attack animation: Tarantula's have a distinct attack animation. They stand up on their back legs, and that signals they are readying an attack. Hold still while they are moving this way.
  • There's no penalty for dying over and over: Don't worry about being bit a bunch while trying to learn the moves; there's really no down side to dying over and over. Already cut trees won't grow back or anything like that, so players have plenty of time to learn the right moves.
  • Sneak up on them: Players can sneak by hold A with the net and using the stick to move.
  • Stay away from pairs: If there's a tarantula near the one players are trying to catch, it will most likely attack during that players catch animation.
  • Let the last one catch up: Once there are no spiders on the island, players will have to wait until they respawn. Or they can just let the last spider catch them. The player will wake up on the dock and the spiders will have all respawned.
  • Make sure there's inventory space: Empty pockets and grab extra inventory slots before going to make sure there's lots of room for those pricey little critters in inventory.

While Spider Island is not the most romantic location on Animal Crossing: New Horizons and no one will probably hold a wedding there, it can definitely help players to pay down their debts to the Nooks for their beautiful new homes. Good luck with the spider hunting!
