There are over 80 fighters from all across video game history in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate now that the game has finished its first DLC pass with Byleth from Fire Emblem: Three Houses. Another six characters are on the way in a second pass, including a representative from the Switch title Arms, but before the roster grows fans can still appreciate a currently complete collection of Animal Crossing: New Horizons costumes created by Reddit user DJ-Dez.

One of the biggest creative outlets in New Horizons is its custom pattern design system for pathways, displays, and clothing, offering freedom which players have used for some impressive feats like a recreation of the high ground scene from Star Wars: Episode 3. The full-scale Smash Bros. roster took DJ-Dez over 400 hours according to yesterday's post in the r/AnimalCrossing subreddit, which makes sense when there are disparate designs ranging from humans like Earthbound's Ness to monsters like Metroid's Ridley.

Naturally, Isabelle is the one character who did not need the same treatment, even if in the comments of their post DJ-Dez denies ever having heard of Photoshop. Every custom design is currently available through the Able Sisters' kiosk in Animal Crossing: New Horizons using the creator ID MA-3790-6501-6469, though characters like Mr. Game & Watch are made with in-game outfit pieces, so some assembly may be required.

There's an entire cottage industry of recreating characters and objects from other popular culture properties that has flourished in New Horizons since it released in March. Though fellow video games make up a sizable portion of this venture, everything from comic books to animated films like the works of Studio Ghibli have been ported into Animal Crossing.

The fact that so much creativity is possible in New Horizons, likely coupled with its release corresponding to the early months of the coronavirus pandemic, has resulted in the game being incredibly popular. In fact, New Horizons is the fastest-selling game on the Nintendo Switch and it has vastly outsold every other entry in the series.

Of course, the popularity of Super Smash Bros. is nothing to sneeze at either, and Ultimate has made a huge splash in gaming circles especially thanks to its continual DLC characters and free events. One such event back in April actually added Animal Crossing: New Horizons characters as Spirits, for anyone who wants to experience the flip-side of DJ-Dez's herculean effort.
