Updates and seasonal changes are still ongoing for Animal Crossing: New Horizons with June soon on the horizon. For players in the Northern Hemisphere, this means that spring bamboo will be leaving and summer shells will be arriving.

Summer shells are a new item introduced in Animal Crossing: New Horizons as a crafting material used for seasonal tools and furniture. Players looking to have nautical themed rooms or areas on their island can use these recipes to create these gorgeous items. Players should note that they can only collect summer shells and its recipes in the summer.

Like with the cherry blossom recipes and bamboo recipes, it is difficult for players to receive all the recipes consistently without help from other players. For this reason, players are highly encouraged to share duplicate recipes with friends.

ACNH Beach Shells

Summer shells can be found on beaches and wash up on shores just like other shells. They look like conch shells, except they have a blue tint to them that causes them to stand out from other shells. Unlike spring bamboo, players don't need to have anything set up beforehand to get the proper materials. The recipes that require summer shells are:

  • Shell Wand
  • Shell Wreath
  • Shellfish Pochette
  • Starry-Sands Flooring
  • Tropical Vista
  • Underwater Flooring
  • Underwater Wall
  • Water Flooring

The easiest recipe to get is the Shell Wreath recipe. This recipe can be received from Isabelle who will give it away and send it to players' phones during a summer morning announcement. This is the same way that the Outdoor Picnic Set recipe was given away in spring. However, it is unknown which exact day Isabelle gives it out and it seems to be random. This recipe also cannot be given to other players due to being directly sent to players' Nook Phones and not being given on a recipe card physically.

Unfortunately, the rest of the recipes can only be gotten by popping floating balloon presents that randomly spawn on players' islands. They cannot appear in message bottles on beaches like the bamboo recipes. However, the previous bug that stopped balloons from spawning on players' islands has been fixed, making it a little easier to get these recipes.
