The latest update to Animal Crossing: New Horizons has brought a slew of new items and additions to the game. Players can unlock a new cafe in the museum, explore mystery islands in a new way, and plant and grow Gyroids. But getting some of these new items and unlocking some of these new features can be a bit of a challenge.

This is true of the recently added storage shed in Animal Crossing: New Horizons that allows players to access their home storage while outside of their home. For those players looking to better understand what they need to do to unlock the storage shed, this guide is here to help.

How To Unlock The Storage Shed

The storage shed is a bit of a reach for new Animal Crossing: New Horizons players as it requires quite the investment. In order to be able to purchase the storage shed, players have to have completely upgraded their home and home storage system. This is a combined 6 million bells worth of upgrades and consists of adding a whole host of new rooms to a player's house. Therefore, the Storage Shed is really only a reasonable investment for those who have already done these upgrades.

Once those are all completed, however, acquiring a storage shed is a relatively easy matter. Players need to head into Resident Services and activate the Nook Stop Terminal. Players will know this as the place where they can pay their moving fees in Animal Crossing: New Horizons as well as their loans. First, click the option "Redeem Nook Miles" and then tab over to the "Items List". Scrolling down should show the storage shed option for 6,000 Nook Miles. As with other purchases here, it will arrive the next day in the mail.

What Are The Different Types Of Storage Sheds?

There are two distinct types of Storage Sheds in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. One is the orderable item listed above that costs 6,000 Nook Miles for each example. These have two sliding doors, are a bit bulky, and can be placed just about anywhere on the island.

The other option is the wooden storage shed. This type of storage shed comes from a purchasable DIY recipe from the same terminal and is now likely one of the more desirable DIYs in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Listed under the DIY tab in the "Redeem Nook Miles" section, the wooden storage shed recipe costs the same price as the original storage shed but gives players access to as many examples as they can build. These require 30 Wood, 30 Hardwood, and 30 Softwood as well as 10 Iron Nuggets to create.

Though these storage sheds do not actually increase the amount of storage in a player's home in Animal Crossing: New Horizons they still can be quite useful. Both give players access to their home storage regardless of where they are placed on a player’s island.
