Animal Crossing: New Horizons has created new possibilities to customize a player's island; one fan decided to take it to the next level.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is the newest addition to the Animal Crossing series released March of 2020 on the Nintendo Switch. The game offers plenty of new features, such as being able to terraform the player's island. Many players in the game have used this new feature to create extremely elaborate layouts for islands.
One player by the name of "AlmightyMe" posted various pictures on Twitter, showing how she was able to recreate the entire setting of the movie Spirited Away within her island. Spirited Away is a movie developed by Studio Ghibli about a young girl named Chihiro who moves into a strange town with her parents and accidentally winds up in the world of spirits. After her parents are turned into pigs and held hostage by a witch named Yubaba, she works with a young boy named Haku to free them.
AlmightyMe shows off each section of her island in order of various scenes throughout the movie, even creating costumes for villagers in the film like Chihiro's parents, Lin, and even No-Face. The pictures start outside the bathhouse at the entrance of the spirit world, where her family turns into pigs. She then shows off the scene where Chihiro is in the bathhouse with No-Face and ends at the train tracks when Yubaba figures out her son is missing.
If that wasn't dedication enough, AlmightyMe even customized her character's clothing and looked to replicate Chihiro from the movie. Just proving yet again how much commitment the Animal Crossing fanbase has for the game when it comes to villager customization and island decoration.
Spirited Away is arguably one of Studio Ghibli's most popular movies, also being the first anime movie to win an Oscar for Best Animated Feature. It's not a shock that someone would want to recreate something so magical. Still, combine the patience and detail-oriented community of Animal Crossing, and a recipe for something truly magnificent that all fans can enjoy is created. It'll be interesting to see what other fan recreations players decide to build on their island.
