The winter season is almost here in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, which not only means it's almost time for the annual Toy Day celebration, but players can get busy with crafting tons of rare DIY recipes once snowflakes start to fall.

Much like the previous maple leaves and cherry blossoms that could be found around Animal Crossing: New Horizons islands during a specific window of time, snowflakes operate similarly. They will soon be available once the winter season rolls around in-game. For Animal Crossing, winter begins once snow blankets the ground, which starts on December 11th and ends on February 23rd. So in just a couple of days, players can start catching snowflakes for DIY recipes and crafting. In contrast to cherry blossoms and maple leaves, snowflakes will fall throughout the entire two months until the snow melts.

How to Get Snowflake DIY Recipes

Unlike cherry blossoms and maple leaves, there are more than the traditional ways of acquiring snowflake recipes in Animal Crossing. Players can still find them by shooting down balloons and picking up messages in bottles as well as the rare chance of getting one from a villager that's in the middle of crafting. But in the winter, players can also build the perfect snowman, also known as snowboys in the Animal Crossing universe.

Rolling around giant balls of snow have been around since the original Animal Crossing GameCube and Nintendo 64 days, but getting DIYs from snowboys is brand new to New Horizons. To make the perfect snowboy, players will need to find two snowballs, and luckily, it's easy to find two snowballs next to one another, but this requires empty snow-covered ground with no pathing or furniture.

Kick one around and roll them in the snow until they get to their maximum size, which is almost as big as the player's avatar. This will be the body, and to make the head, the snowball should get to about 90% in size. This ratio is very important to making a perfect snowboy, and once he comes to life, he will give the player a seasonal DIY as a reward. Additionally, after building a perfect snowboy, the player can speak to them once each day and get a large snowflake from them, which is also important for crafting DIYs.

Snowflake DIY Recipes

Likely because of the longer time that winter lasts in New Horizons, meaning longer availability for snowflakes, there are many recipes that can be found and crafted. Below is a complete list of winter season recipes that require snowflakes.
