One innovative Animal Crossing: New Horizons player has brought Shrek's swamp to life in the game. The first movie in the Shrek franchise released over 20 years ago in 2001 and has received several sequels and spin-offs, including Puss in Boots, which received a successful sequel of its own in 2022. Animal Crossing: New Horizons is considered one of the coziest games on Nintendo Switch and allows players to customize and develop their own island as they see fit. With a massive selection of cosmetic items and decorations, players often come up with surprising creations inspired by their favorite characters, so it was only a matter of time before the two properties were paired up.

This is not the first time an Animal Crossing player has shared their love of Shrek; another player themed their entire island after the reclusive green anti-hero by using the terraforming function to create his likeness. It could be said that Shrek is something of a cultural phenomenon, and that it was only a matter of time until someone took it upon themselves to recreate everyone's favorite ogre in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

A Redditor by the name of TonyClifton323 posted a screenshot of a room in their Animal Crossing: New Horizons home that has been decorated to strongly resemble Shrek's swamp. They have used a forest-themed wallpaper and placed various mushrooms and props, including an outhouse that invokes the opening scene in the first Shrek movie where the titular character is reading a storybook while using the outhouse. A custom sign straight from the film is also present. The scene itself is widely known as a popular meme thanks to the memorable quote, "Like that's ever gonna happen," which Shrek says in response to the princess in the story being rescued by a brave knight. TonyClifton323 has even customized their character to resemble Shrek, replete with green skin and the character's trademark waistcoat.

The Shrek franchise has spawned over a dozen games of its own, however, not many of them enjoyed much critical or commercial success. The movies are still popular and memorable, even though it was only the first movie and Shrek 2 that were received positively by critics. Fans will be happy to know that there is a fifth Shrek movie in the works, but it is not known at this stage when it can be expected in theaters.

Animal Crossing players seem to excel at recreating iconic scenes from their favorite media, such as the bakery from Studio Ghibli's Kiki's Delivery Service, which tells the story of a young witch who sets out on an adventure with her cat.
