Animal Crossing: New Horizons players have proven themselves to be a creative bunch. Having already recreated the Power Rangers opening sequence (among many, many others), now an intrepid Crosser has given that treatment to a Pokemon classic.

New Horizons has been a smash hit for Nintendo, arriving at a time when many are seeking a peaceful, calming escape from the real world. The game appears on lists of must-own Switch titles because it offers nearly endless creative options for players. What players choose to focus on is up to them. Whether that is fashioning outfits, building the perfect island, or recreating scenes from TV and video games, there is so much to do.

The latest splash of creativity to wash ashore in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a shot-for-shot recreation of the opening minutes of Pokemon Red & Blue. The video opens, as the game does, with "Ash" waking up and heading over to Professor Oak's (or in this case, Professor Hardwood). The video includes sound effects from Pokemon Red & Blue and dialogue that reads like dialogue from the original games, albeit with an Animal Crossing twist. Ash even does battle with Hardwood's grandson, as the two "villager trainers" (and eternal rivals) exchange blows between their starter Pokemon/villagers.

Little touches are what makes this video stand out. Using the Switch console in Ash's room, the town being called Wallet Town, and a nod to sea bass are some great little elements that showcase some real creativity and attention.

The amount of effort put into recreating scenes from other series is certainly impressive. Fans are meticulous with the details, making sure that the finished product looks as close to its inspiration as possible.

While some players take on projects like this, others are content to simply fall into the rhythms of Animal Crossing island living, providing a respite during troubling times. While some of its online functionality may seen limited, with so many people playing the game right now, players are able to connect with friends when they otherwise might be unable.

The game has also become a cultural phenomenon, with celebrities and politicians playing and making appearances in some players' worlds. There is even an Animal Crossing talk show now, and some of the guests include major recording artists who will release new music in-game.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons arrived at just the right time. It's a great game for players to dive into and create whatever their heart desires. Crafting elaborate recreations of classic video games and television shows like these how creative players can be.
