It's almost hard to believe that Animal Crossing: New Horizons has been out for eight months. In that time, Nintendo has put out quite a lot of additional free content by way of seasonal updates for Animal Crossing: New HorizonsHowever, a new update removes a popular exploit that some fans have been using ever since the game's initial release.

The new winter update has provided players a cacophony of additional content to enjoy including new characters to interact with, new decorations for players to utilize, an expanded storage size, new hairstyles, and much more. However, some players have yet to catch onto the fact that Nintendo removed a rather important ability - one that a significant number of Animal Crossing players have been using to their advantage for quite a long time.

As of the release of the winter update, players will no longer be able to use Animal Crossing's time travel exploit. By going into the game's settings, players could set the in-game clock months ahead into the future so that they could experience new content early. Though, as of now, players can no longer go forward in time.

This might be disappointing news for some players, but thankfully, it's not all bad. While players will no longer be able to jump ahead to see future content, they can continue to go back in time to revisit older events such as the Toy Day event and Turkey Day event. Hopefully, this will give players another chance at whatever content they may have potentially missed.

In any case, it will be interesting to see what other future content Nintendo has in store for its players. The one-year anniversary of Animal Crossing's release is coming up soon, so it begs to question of what kind of additional content will players see in the future? It's likely that Nintendo has at the very least some kind of Valentine's Day-themed event for February, but outside of that, there hasn't been any further speculation. Perhaps more will be revealed in an upcoming Nintendo Direct.

It's amazing how much of an impact Animal Crossing has had on players from around the world. In less than one year, the game has made an incredible cultural impact and has influenced various facets of everyday life. Now that the game is up for multiple nominations at The Game Awards 2020, it seems likely that the game could walk away quite the winner.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available now exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
