The new Happy Home Paradise DLC has brought a surge of new popularity to Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The new outdoor and indoor customization options appear to be especially popular as they give players a variety of new ways to decorate the island. One Animal Crossing: New Horizons player is hard at work creating an outdoor movie theater, complete with a seemingly cheerful poster for Midsommar.

Ari Aster's Midsommar is a 2019 horror movie that became notorious for its mix of daylight horror and strong emotional storytelling. The film largely takes place in the Swedish countryside, giving it an old-fashioned pastoral feel that fits right in with the warm, friendly tone of the Animal Crossing franchise. However, unlike Animal Crossing, Midsommar has a very high body count.

Redditor johnbendcr shared a screenshot of their in-progress outdoor movie theater, which already looks cozy despite the screenshot having been taken during the island's winter. The set-up features what seems to be a plaid picnic blanket, a torch, cushions for curious Animal Crossing villagers to sit on, a strategically placed log for extra viewers, a variety of snacks, and a campfire. A large projector screen and a small poster for Midsommar complete the cozy look.

According to johnbendcr, the white projector screen can be switched on like a television. The result looks uncannily like the movie theater is in use, though it does not appear that the projector can play Midsommar without a bit of help from modders. This isn't the first time Animal Crossing: New Horizons players have created a comfy hangout based on an existing property, but it may be one of the coziest, even during the island's winter months. Johnbendcr has stated that they plan to add a projector to the movie theater as soon as they locate the item.

It appears that other fans appreciate both johnbendcr's design sensibilities and their taste in horror movies. Several users commented on how fitting it was to have Animal Crossing characters watch Midsommar, with one user gleefully discussing how traumatizing the experience would be for the villagers. Johnbendcr agreed but noted that Coco the rabbit villager would likely be just fine. Another user replied by stating that Coco has been May Queen before, which fans of Midsommar may recognize as a particularly ominous comment. One user noted they would love to watch Midsommar at an outdoor theatre like this one.
