The final update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons has been fully revealed and is coming soon. There are a lot of great additions for players to look forward to, like farming, the Roost cafe, and a heavily requested frog-themed chair. One of the biggest additions coming to Animal Crossing: New Horizons, however, is the return of the fan-favorite character Kapp'n.

Kapp'n has been in nearly every single Animal Crossing title, with the charming frog transporting the player to new areas while singing mournful songs about his adventures on the sea or failures in past romances. With players inevitably flocking back to Animal Crossing: New Horizons on November 5 to check out the new update, many familiar with previous entries in the series will undoubtedly be excited to see the return of Kapp'n and his boat.

Kapp'n In Previous Animal Crossing Games

Kapp'n was introduced in the very first Animal Crossing game, where he operated a ferry that transported the player to the animal island through a Game Boy Advance cable. Then, in Wild World, Kapp'n is the first character players see, as he drives them through a rainstorm in a taxi and asks them questions that customize their avatar for them. The lore behind Kapp'n then expanded with his appearance in City Folk, where he drives the bus at the start of the game as well as any future bus trips that players go on. During bus rides, he will make small talk with male characters and will flirt with female characters.

New Leaf then brought Kapp'n back as the driver of a motorized boat that can be used to take the player to Tortimer Island while he sings sea shanties during the trip. Through small conversations during rides, players can learn that he has newly gotten married to his wife Leilani and that they have a daughter named Leila. He was also featured as a playable character in amiibo Festival, and can be added to the game by scanning his amiibo on the Wii U. However, he does not have any special role within the game and is just a playable character.

Kapp'n in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Now, Kapp'n is coming to Animal Crossing: New Horizons. In the newest game, he will again escort players by boat to distant islands, this time for only 1,000 Nook Points. Those islands will play a special role in the game, as they can be at any time of day, weather, or season no matter what the player's main island is like. Not only will this bring a lot of variety to the islands, but it also will help players collect their bug and fish collections on top of the new exclusive plants that players will be able to find on them.

The newest role of Kapp'n is most similar to his role in New Leaf, although he has been given a lot more utility this time around. His islands aim to help make Animal Crossing: New Horizons replayable for years to come, and it seems pretty likely that they will do just that. This new role for Kapp'n is still markedly different from the other titles, however. Based on what has been revealed about his content, he will surely not be included in the introduction of the game, nor will he be driving a bus around on the player's island. Either way, players have a lot of great new content to look forward to in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and they thankfully don't have long to wait much longer to access it.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available now on Switch with its last free update arriving on November 5.
