July is nearly here, which means Animal Crossing: New Horizons players are looking forward to a plethora of new summer bugs to catch.

There are a ton of new bugs coming to Animal Crossing: New Horizons in the Northern Hemisphere next month. Unfortunately for fans in the Southern Hemisphere, no new bugs or fish will be joining the roster in July.

Today, players had their first chance at earning Flick’s bug-themed prizes, such as a Bug Aloha Shirt and a Bug Wand in the Bug Off. Luckily for any fans who weren’t available for bug hunting today will have a few other chances to earn the specialty items. The Bug Off event will be each 4th Saturday of the months of July, August, and September for those in the Northern Hemisphere, while folks in the Southern Hemisphere will have to wait until November for their next shot and the prizes.

Each bug has different odds of appearing, some of which are more common, but with many that are rarer finds, so players will have a lot of hunting to do if they want to get all the new bugs donated to Blathers’s museum.

After players say goodbye to several fish at June’s end, they will soon find that lots of the new bugs arriving in July are different types of beetles and cicadas. As most fans know, Animal Crossing contains heavy Japanese influence, from the Godzilla statue to cherry blossom season. And Japan is known for having morbidly hot summers plagued with beetles and cicadas, many of which get massive. Horned Hercules beetles, for example, can reach up to 7 inches in length. Blathers will surely be mortified by the new donations to his museum.

For players still working to fill out their museums, they have just a few more days to catch creepy-crawlies leaving at the end of June. Luckily, none of the bugs leaving are very rare, so players should have an easy time filling out this portion of their Critterpedias.
