While it might be hard for some to believe, the SpongeBob SquarePants series has been around for over 22 years. Set in the undersea town of Bikini Bottom, the show centers on the adventures of SpongeBob and often includes many other colorful characters, such as Patrick, Squidward, Mr. Krabs, and Sandy Cheeks. Recently, fans of the cartoon show have been recreating some of its classic moments in the game, Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

In a post on Reddit, a user known as Biochao shared a video they made in Animal Crossing: New Horizons about SpongeBob SquarePants. What made this clip special was that it recreated a scene from the iconic “I don’t need it” scene from "Tea at the Treedome." In the episode, SpongeBob visits Sandy Cheeks at her treedome. However, things take a comedic turn when SpongeBob claims that he doesn’t need water to survive.

The clip captured by Biochao started with a Crumploid Gyroid sitting on a picnic bench in the middle of a room. This Gyroid was obviously meant to fill the role of SpongeBob visiting Sandy in the TV show. Suddenly, the original dialogue from the episode featuring the voice talents of Tom Kenny was heard over the footage. The iconic phrase “I don’t need it” started being uttered repeatedly as the music built towards a crescendo. After several skillful cuts between a container of liquid on the table and the parched Crumploid on the picnic bench, the Gyroid finally screamed, “I need it!”

Besides this impressive cinematography needed to recreate the scene, Biochao managed to design a room similar in appearance to Sandy's treedome seen in the episode. The Reddit user placed wooded benches on opposite sides of a picnic table that was decorated with a checkered tablecloth. On top of the table was an iced tea meant to replace the vase of water seen in the episode. In addition, the room featured a floor covered in grass juxtaposed against an impressive underwater backdrop, complete with numerous schooling fish.

This recreated SpongeBob SquarePants scene piqued the curiosity of numerous members of the Animal Crossing community on Reddit. With a stunning 21.7K upvotes in only a day, many were impressed with how Biochao managed to replicate the feel of the nostalgic scene. “This is hilarious lol I’d say mission accomplished,” one person commented.

This is just one of the many intriguing creations made by talented fans in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Besides this SpongeBob SquarePants scene, another fan, known as zamueeel, attempted to recreate the famous street that SpongeBob lives on with his best friend Patrick and curmudgeonly neighbor Squidward.

In a Reddit post, zamueeel shared a screenshot showcasing their unusual take on SpongeBob's neighborhood. In the image, the creator made a version of each of the houses seen in the show from objects available in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. There was a rock for Patrick, a Moai house for Squidward, and a pineapple for SpongeBob. They even managed to include simplified versions of each of the characters next to their houses.

However, it was obvious when comparing this creation made by zamueeel with the one seen in the TV show that this remake was not the most detailed. Nevertheless, this only seemed to add to the comedy of the design. With over 59.9K upvotes, many seemed to love the simplistic take on the classic cartoon street. “ Close enough!” one person joked.

It is exciting to see fans of SpongeBob SquarePants make unique creations in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. It will be interesting to see what the community of players makes next based on the iconic Nickelodeon cartoon.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available now for the Nintendo Switch.
