Unlike previous Animal Crossing games, the main concept of Nintendo's latest release, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, is to live in a deserted island and establish a bustling village. This means that at the beginning of the game, players are only accompanied by Tom, Timmy, and Tommy Nook, and a couple of other villagers who were brave enough to embark on this challenging new life.

Now, for those who have just started playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the game will actually allow players to meet around 400 characters, but only 10 of them can live on the island at any given time. Of course, the main task of players in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is to establish the perfect village, which means that unlike other games, players would have more control in recruiting new villagers to their respective islands.

To recruit new villagers, players would need to have gotten far enough in the game to be able to travel to other islands via a Nook Miles ticket. This means that the player must have been playing the game for more than a day and have earned at least 2,000 Nook Miles, which is the cost for the ticket to visit other islands.

Explore Other Islands

With a Nook Miles Ticket at hand, players can head to the airport and ask Orville, the dodo bird manning the terminal, for a flight to a different island. Once there, players can utilize the new island's resources and gather up supplies to take home. Players may also encounter random animal NPCs exploring the area. To recruit them, the player must simply talk to the NPC multiple times and convince them to move in.

After encouraging a random NPC to move in, players would have to wait for Tom Nook to ask the player to scout a plot of land for incoming villagers. This request will only be made if the player has already built Nook's Cranny. Once the player is able to achieve this, they will get a DIY recipe for a bridge, which will eventually lead to Tom Nook asking the help of the player to set up new houses for the villagers. Once the player is able to fulfill all the required materials for these houses, Tom Nook will begin construction and after the next day, new villagers will move into the island.

Build a Campsite and use amiibo Cards or Figures

Another way to recruit new villagers in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is via a campsite. Once the player has successfully upgraded the Resident Services from a tent to a building, players will be able to set up a campsite for visiting NPCs. Just like in the random islands, players would have to talk to these guests and convince them to stay on the island for good.

One easy way to get new villagers in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is by using amiibo cards or figures. Once the player has successfully set up a campsite for traveling folks, they can head over to the Nook Stop kiosk where they can scan amiibo by hovering it over the joystick on the right Joy-Con. Shortly after, the amiibo that players used will pop up as a new camper on the island, and players would simply need to talk to them and persuade them to move-in.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available now for the Nintendo Switch.
