Animal Crossing New Horizons seems to offer more customization and decoration options than any other game in the series. New Leaf gave players a taste of this freedom with Cyrus' reupholstering service, but the variety of DIY recipes and color schemes available makes the New Horizons catalog more expansive than ever.

But that's not to say New Horizons ticks every box when it comes to its items. Many furniture series, some of which have been around since the very first Animal Crossing on the GameCube, are completely absent from the Switch installment. While some of these sets seem deservedly left out, others are remembered as iconic pieces of furniture that will be greatly missed.

10 Do Miss: Sweets Series

Appearing in both City Folk and New Leaf, this tasty furniture series can be purchased from fashionista and style icon Gracie the Giraffe. Even though the Sweets Series is the cheapest furniture set that can be purchased from Gracie, it costs a whopping 1,534,000 Bells to purchase every piece.

The chocolate bar-themed dresser is the most expensive piece at 220,000 Bells, and other items include a swiss roll sofa and a macaron-shaped record player. The adorable dessert motif made this series incredibly popular, giving players the perfect way to decorate that extra bedroom.

9 Don't Miss: Green Series

It's worth noting that the Green Series has been a staple of Animal Crossing homes since the GameCube era, so it deserves at least some respect. The green bed is certainly better-looking than the common bed players start off with, but that's about where the charm runs out.

The bulkiness of the table makes it look more suited to a picnic area than a dining room, and cushionless, wooden bench would fit better in a garden. Perhaps if the Green Series was still around in New Horizons players would be able to work it into the decor in a more satisfying way, but there's plenty of new, more attractive furniture that does the same job just as well.

8 Do Miss: Mush Series

The Autumn seasonal DIY events have just wrapped up in New Horizons' Southern Hemisphere, so many players will know that this series does have some representation on the Switch. The Mush Lamp in particular has returned to the spotlight as a garden decoration hidden in many deserted island forests.

Unfortunately, the New Horizons version seems more focused on outdoor furniture, so we're missing many classic pieces like the Mush Bed and Mush TV. These items have made appearances in Wild WorldCity Folk, and New Leaf, so it's a shame to see they haven't returned.

7 Don't Miss: Polka Dot Series

The shapes and physical designs of this series are admittedly cute, evoking a retro flare with their curved silhouettes. The main problem with the Polka Dot Series is the dots themselves - filling a room with this furniture creates a sea of spots that's almost confusing enough to create an optical illusion.

Luckily for New Leaf players, Cyrus can reupholster this set to make it slightly less gaudy to look at. The Soda Blue and Peach Pink designs are much subtler given that the polka dots and backgrounds are contrasting shades, rather than completely different colors.

6 Do Miss: Rococo Series

Introduced in New Leaf, the elegance and luxury of the Rococo Series made it an extremely popular set. Back when players could view each other's homes using the 3DS' Streetpass features, it was rare to enter a room in the Happy Home Showcase and not see at least a Rococo Sofa or Bed as some kind of centerpiece.

This series could also be customized by Cyrus, with blue, purple, and pink options available. The purple color scheme included black details, evoking a uniquely gothic look that simply can't be replicated with the New Horizons catalog.

5 Don't Miss: Modern Series

Another classic series from the original Animal Crossing, the Modern Series is not so... modern anymore. Perhaps in the early 2000s checkerboard patterns were considered cutting edge, but amongst the more minimalist styles available in New Leaf and New Horizons, this furniture looks incredibly dated.

Modern furniture made appearances in the default homes of some rather popular villagers, so players may recognize the style if they've ever had Apollo, Butch, or Freya in their towns. In New Horizons, Apollo instead opts for the similar but much more appealing black and white Diner Sofa, so suitable alternatives are certainly available.

4 Do Miss: Princess Series

Like the Sweets Series, the Princess Series can be purchased from Gracie in City Folk and New Horizons. It's slightly more expensive at 1,926,000 Bells for the full set, but few players would deny it's worth the price tag. The most costly piece here is the Princess Curio, a display cabinet full of tiny treasures that will set you back 300,000 Bells.

The canopy bed, white and aqua color scheme, and rosy patterns will make any room feel like a palace, but one item stands out as both the sweetest and strangest - the Princess Cage. This white 1x1 birdcage is the perfect size to fill up those annoying empty spaces and will have players feeling like a Disney Princess in no time.

3 Don't Miss: Gracie's Series

Considering how highly players regard other Gracie furniture, like the Sweets and Princess Series, it might seem odd that the Giraffe's namesake set won't be missed if it doesn't show up in New Horizons. Perhaps, like the Modern Series, this design was considered stylish at the time, but now it just makes your home look like it's covered in blue and green targets.

To add insult to injury, this furniture is far and away the most expensive Gracie sells. The Gracie Shelf and Wardrobe are worth 350,000 Bells each, and any completionists looking to complete the set will need to spend 2,436,000 Bells - nearly twice as much as all the initial home upgrades combined in New Leaf.

2 Do Miss: Astro Series

The Astro Series is more of an underrated, hidden gem than some other furniture we miss, but its retro-futuristic aesthetic is nothing short of iconic. Cheri, Chadder, and the superhero bunny Mira decorate their homes almost exclusively with Astro furniture in New Leaf, where the set made its first and last major appearance.

The color variants available through Cyrus' reupholstering make this set incredibly versatile. The black/blue scheme creates a look perfect for sci-fi themed rooms, especially when paired with a starry floor. The black/red scheme, which looks more like black and hot pink, looks like something straight out of a cyberpunk movie.

1 Don't Miss: Alpine Series

Contrary to its name, the Alpine Series isn't particularly rustic-looking. Its default design includes a white, grey and blue leaf pattern, and it's simply not very attractive. The reason for this, though, is that the furniture is designed to be customized, and the leaf design overwritten with players' own unique patterns.

The Alpine Series was the only furniture you could customize to this extent before New Horizons, and therein lies the reason it won't be missed. With the advent of DIY mechanics, most furniture can be altered in some way, even with your own original patterns. In a bittersweet twist, players no longer need to rely on what was once the most customizable furniture available.
