Animal Crossing: New Horizons players are in for a treat now that Nintendo is giving away a free item that they can display in their virtual homes. The only requirement that players must meet to acquire this item is to have an ongoing subscription to Switch Online. This free new item comes in the form of a stylish Nook, Inc. Silk Rug, which sports a green color and is adorned with the iconic Animal Crossing leaf icon.

To get the special item, players must simply head over to the Nintendo eShop and find the menu for Nintendo Switch Online. There, players should find the "Special Offers" section where the rug can be found alongside other current promotional items. After downloading it, players will be able to find the rug the next time they load up Animal Crossing: New Horizons. However, it is worth knowing that while the promotional item is free at the eShop, the same cannot be said in-game.

Players will be able to access the rug via the kiosk located inside the Resident Services Building, where they can purchase it via Nook Miles. Luckily, the rug is inexpensive and only costs 600 Nook Miles, which can be easily earned just by talking to villagers or doing simple tasks in the game such as catching fish or bugs, digging up fossils, and many others. At the moment, having a Switch Online membership is the only way to obtain the Nook, Inc. rug, but players of New Horizons would want to have a subscription anyway to access the game's multiplayer mode.

Meanwhile, it has been announced recently that Animal Crossing: New Horizons is now one of the fastest-selling Nintendo games ever. This was revealed via NPD, who reported that Animal Crossing: New Horizons was able to outsell other huge games such as Doom Eternal and Ori and the Will of the Wisps. At the moment, New Horizons is the third fastest-selling  Nintendo game of all time behind Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for the Switch and Super Smash Bros. Brawl for the Wii.

Of course, this milestone is unsurprising for Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Ever since its release last month, the world has been captivated with the idea of setting up a new life on a deserted island filled with their favorite Animal Crossing characters. The game's wide variety of customization options and activities such as bug-catching, fishing, crafting, and many more are the primary factors that made the game so popular even to those who haven't played previous Animal Crossing games.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is out now for the Nintendo Switch.
