Players in Animal Crossing: New Horizons have their own native fruit for their new island home. While some players do whatever it takes to get their favorite fruit on their island, many are simply living with their fruits and are using them as an extra method to get more bells from their island's resources. However, unlike other games in the series, Animal Crossing: New Horizons offers a brand new mechanic associated with eating fruit.

Native fruit comes in five different types: apples, oranges, pears, cherries, and peaches. What type of fruit doesn't matter when eating them, it only matters for selling, as non-native fruits sell for more. Fruit can be obtained by shaking fruit trees that visually have fruit on them and the fruit will grow back after a few days. Turnips are not meant for eating and should be saved for selling.

The main use from eating fruits in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is the temporary burst of super-human strength given to players. This burst of strength can only be used once per fruit eaten with up to 10 bursts of strength being able to be stored at once. Here are some of the uses for these bursts of strength.

Destroying Rocks

Is a player unhappy with the placement of the rocks on their island? By eating a fruit and hitting a rock with an axe or shovel, the rock will completely shatter, leaving behind any precious materials and ores inside, such as iron nuggets. Players should note that this is semi-permanent, as the rock will not respawn and any materials that could've been obtained from it on future days will no longer be available. However, a new rock will spawn in a random location on their island within a few days.

To avoid depleting one's own island of rocks, using Nook Miles to go to other islands will allow players to break rocks and save their shovels some hits while getting as many resources as possible.

Moving Trees

In past Animal Crossing titles, moving a tree would require players to cut it down and replant a new one in a new location. By eating a fruit in New Horizons, players can use their shovels to completely uproot fully grown trees and replant them in any place they can normally grow. This goes for pine trees, normal trees, and fruit trees alike. This can allow players to group all of their fruit trees together for a orchard, have a special tree next to every villagers' homes, or even bring a tree over to a friend's island.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available now, exclusively for Nintendo Switch.
