Animal Crossing: New Horizons marked a triumphant return for a series that focuses on socializing and carrying out helpful tasks. The success of New Horizons was reflected in its positive critical reception. Since the release of the game, plenty of fans have been creating idyllic islands and having fun with the praised mechanics, yet one fan has managed to create a homage to another famous Nintendo game. It seems that a player has turned their island into Onett from the EarthBound series.

The EarthBound series was first released in 1994 and utilized numerous role-playing elements to create an engaging experience. However, when the game was originally released for western audiences it was not well received. Since then, the game has picked up a following of gamers who appreciate its unique art direction and solid RPG mechanics. With EarthBound's aesthetic qualities in mind, it is impressive to see the style implemented on a contemporary game like Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Twitter user, Koumepo, has created an island that uses the bold lines and colors of EarthBound and has essentially created a new Onett. Onett is a key city in EarthBound and the home of several central characters. The island also pays homage to some fan theories that Ness is actually Sans in Undertale and this has pleased fans with a keen eye. Animal Crossing: New Horizons has inspired some incredible fan content and this is another case of players utilizing their talents to make the game even more entertaining.

Animal Crossing: New Horizon has been a huge commercial success and part of its appeal is the fan-made content that comes from the game. It will be interesting to see if there are more EarthBound crossovers or if fans use the visual styles of other classic video games on their islands. Either way, it seems that Animal Crossing and its fans are giving the game plenty of updates whilst adding to the longevity of the game.

The Animal Crossing community is certainly active and it seems that they are an integral part of the success of the game. It will be fascinating to see what fans come up with next and how the game will continue to enable players to be creative. Whether fans can create a better homage to a classic game than this one remains to be seen, but for now many will be amazed by what this fan has done in the game.
