Animal Crossing: New Horizons was released in March of 2020 and became an instant hit for Nintendo. With many people searching for a means to stay occupied during the pandemic, the newest installment in the Animal Crossing series was the perfect solution for numerous gamers. As a result, the game became a huge commercial success for Nintendo, selling millions of copies. However, it wasn’t perfect, as the omission of one key feature left many frustrated.

Not everyone is fortunate enough to own their own Nintendo Switch. In some cases, several people play games on the same system and subsequently share a copy of the same title, meaning that multiple save files are required. Unfortunately, playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons with multiple accounts on one cartridge was difficult, as the game only supported one island per console with progress connected to one account. This meant that only one person could enjoy the complete gameplay experience, while others playing on that copy of the game were forced to play with fewer features. Fans became so disgruntled with the lack of separate save data that some even review bombed Animal Crossing: New Horizons after launch.

Fortunately for fans, as part of the Happy Home Paradise DLC, the developers have looked to change this annoying one island limit with the release of this new content. With this DLC for Animal Crossing: New Horizons available for purchase, fans can now make separate save data. This new functionality means that players that use someone else’s copy of the game are able to save their own progress in the DLC content. As a result, this gives players sharing a cartridge the option to create unique designs for vacation homes in the DLC.

In addition to this new save feature, Happy Home Paradise brings loads of new content to the game. This Animal Crossing: New Horizons DLC focuses on creating resort islands, complete with vacations homes that can be customized. The update includes many new furnishings to help design a relaxing holiday home in order to help build the ultimate vacation resort. In addition, the DLC brings 3 more characters to the game: Niko, Lottie, and Wardell. Collectively, they make up the Paradise Planning team for the vacation resort and help players design breathtaking vacation homes.

It’s nice to see developers listen to the requests of their fan base. With this save feature now added to Animal Crossing: New Horizons, it will be interesting to see if this encourages more people to either purchase the DLC or pick it up as part of the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack.
