With Animal Crossing: New Horizons villagers getting up to an assortment of activities as players are away, one fan has spotted an interesting detail when all of them are sleeping. Since the first Animal Crossing title was released, villagers chat among themselves, explore, and sleep at their own leisure, and one fan noticed something about the latter feature with Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
When Animal Crossing: New Horizons villagers fall asleep, their house becomes inaccessible, with some characters resting on the ground in public periodically as well. Animal Crossing: New Horizons sleep patterns are loosely linked to a character's personality, with the Night Owl and Early Bird ordinances inspiring them to stay up later or wake up earlier respectively. Though a personality can affect when the Animal Crossing: New Horizons villagers are sleeping, some fans have experienced moments in which all of them are asleep and unable to speak with.
Reddit user Vqstxr has garnered 5,000 upvotes on an Animal Crossing: New Horizons screenshot focusing on the ferryman Kapp'n who is in his usual resting spot on the pier side of the island. According to Vqstxr, the image is centered on the Animal Crossing character instead of what is usually one of the villagers because all the characters on their island are asleep at the same time. Instead of watching one of the Animal Crossing villagers explore the island while they remain on the title screen, the one that spotlights Kapp'n remains stationary as the character bobs up and down to the waves beneath his boat.
Although Kapp'n seems to be the default Animal Crossing: New Horizons title screen character when all villagers are asleep, it's currently unclear when, or even if the NPC gets any sleep of his own. The title screen isn't the only place that Animal Crossing: New Horizons fans can spot Kapp'n, as he can also be occasionally found at The Roost between 3:00 and 6:00 in-game time and in the Happy Home Paradise DLC which allows players to make a vacation home for him. Outside these offshoots, Kapp'n is usually waiting for players at the Animal Crossing: New Horizons dock in order to take them for boat tours or to a mystery island.
While Vqstxr successfully caught Kapp'n at a strange hour in their Animal Crossing: New Horizons title screen, it remains unknown just how often the NPC is selected rather than villagers. Because of the personality link to sleeping hours, Vqstxr's Animal Crossing: New Horizons island may consist of villagers that are primarily one character type rather than a mix of the eight possibilities.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available now for Nintendo Switch.
