While Nintendo may have released Animal Crossing: New Horizons at the perfect time in hindsight, it is still a great installment in the Animal Crossing series. Just over a year after its original release, Animal Crossing: New Horizons has sold over 35 million copies, a number that continues to rise.

The plethora of possible villagers that a player can invite to their island ranges from species like dogs and cats to rhinos and octopuses. While she might not be most gamers' favorite Animal Crossing: New Horizons villager, the octopus Marina is clearly adorable in her own right.

Marina's Basic Villager Information

pink octopus villager

Marina (タコリーナ or Takorīna in Japan) is one of Animal Crossing: New Horizon's octopus villagers along with Octavian and Zucker. Her pink skin helps differentiate her from the other octopus villagers, although she is the only female octopus in the entire Animal Crossing series so far. Her birthday is June 26, which makes her Zodiac sign Cancer. Marina also has the "Normal" personality type.

Marina's History in Animal Crossing

Marina has actually been in the Animal Crossing series almost from the beginning. She first appeared in Animal Forest e+ when it was releasing in Japan in 2003 and then became a series staple starting with Animal Crossing: Wild World. This pink octopus has also appeared in City Folk, New Leaf, Happy Home Designer, Pocket Camp, and New Horizons. Interestingly enough, Marina also appears on the cover of one of K.K Slider's songs in Animal Forest e+, #69 K.K. Rally

While the overall look of Marina has stayed the same, her clothing and furniture stylings have varied through the Animal Crossing series. In Animal Forest e+, she starts with the Red Aloha Shirt, then transitions to the Bubble-Gum Tee, starting with Wild World, and then starts with a Dreamy Sweater in New Horizons. The version of Marina in New Leaf preferred the "Lovely" series of furniture items, and both Pocket Camp and New Horizons see Marina prefer the "Cute" series.

When it comes to Marina in Pocket Camp, she gets the special description: "Like the rubbery texture of her skin, Marina is polite yet firm. But mainly polite. Wait-can skin be polite? We're sorry. This metaphor got away from us."

Marina's Personality and More

Marina may be polite, but her personality type in the games is "Normal." This means that Marina will likely get along with other villagers with personality types that are normal, lazy, peppy, smug, or snooty. She will generally be kind to these villagers like she is kind to the player. Occasionally, she may not get along with certain cranky or sisterly villagers.

Not surprising for an octopus villager, but Marina's initial catchphrase is "blurp," an onomatopoeic sound for an octopus spitting out ink. If it wasn't already clear that Marina is a kind villager, she believes “if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.” Her favorite color is obviously pink. She likes bright, colorful environments in her home—quite the opposite for any player who wants to adapt Resident Evil Village into their Animal Crossing game.

Each villager also has a favorite hobby, which is a pastime that affects a villager's conversations and actions at times. Hobbies can be anything from fossil collection to gardening to working out. For Marina, her hobby happens to involve music. She loves to sing but can be shy about it. If a player approaches her or tries to record her singing, she will probably stop.

Players that want to enjoy the adorable moments of Marina singing should do so carefully or from a distance. Marina will occasionally sing K.K. Slider's "Two Days Ago" if it is on the radio, but she likes to play Soulful K.K. in her own house.

Overall, Marina is a cute pink Octopus that loves to sing and loves to get along with others. Apparently, she can be one of the more rare villagers to find. Easy to befriend, she would be a great addition to any player's island in New Horizons.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available for the Nintendo Switch.
