The wait for news on the last free content update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons has finally come to an end, and it looks to be a massive one. Releasing alongside the first-ever paid DLC for Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the new update adds permanent ladders, better storage, the Roost cafe, and the return of the series' favorite boatman, Kapp'n.
In previous titles, Kapp'n has allowed players to travel to other locations whether it be by ferry, bus, or taxi. He quickly found a place in the heart of fans, as his travels were accompanied by him singing funny songs about the sea and the romances of his life that were undeniably charming. Now, Kapp'n is arriving with November 5's 2.0 update, which could very well change how Animal Crossing: New Horizons is played.
What Kapp'n Will Do In Animal Crossing: New Horizons
In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Kapp'n will take players on Mystery Tours for the low cost of 1,000 Nook Miles. Previously, Mystery Tours were only available through Dodo Airlines for double that cost, and they took players to uncharted islands where they could gather resources and run into new villagers as they gathered resources. Kapp'n in Animal Crossing: New Horizons will act similarly, but with some very important differences.
Not only is his service cheaper than Dodo Airlines, but he will also be able to take players to unique islands that are only available through him. These islands will include new types of plants, as well as being able to spawn in at completely different seasons and times of day as the player's home island. This could very well make visiting the islands much more enjoyable when done through Kapp'n, and it seems likely that the new plants will play into Animal Crossing's new farming mechanics that are also coming with the update.
How Kapp'n Will Help Players Complete Their Collections Easier
One of the longest processes in any Animal Crossing game is completing the museum by catching every fish and bug in the game. Not only can catching particular fish and bugs be time-consuming, but they each also have their own requirements that have to be met by the weather, season, and time of day in the game. This can be very frustrating for players who only have particular times of the day that they can play, or who don't want to wait an entire year to complete their museum. Of course, many Animal Crossing players use time travel to expedite the process, but for those that don't want to do that, Kapp'n might be their new best friend.
This is because the islands that Kapp'n takes players to will vary in weather, season, and time of day, potentially allowing players to catch the bug and fish that they are missing regardless of when they are playing. It will likely take quite a lot of tries to get the perfect island, but players who are simply using the service for fun and to see the new islands will likely run into the conditions they need to help fill out their museum a bit when they get back home. It will be great to see what impact Kapp'n and the update's other additions have on the game, as well as its upcoming Happy Home Paradise DLC.
