There are so many items to discover and buy throughout Animal Crossing: New Horizons. It's always a fun surprise to walk into Nook's Cranny to see what Timmy and Tommy will be selling each day. From new furniture items and hanging decor to wallpapers and plants, the creative items waiting to be discovered are seemingly endless. When shopping for the perfect items to add to one's island collection, price is pretty important, since earning copious amounts of Bells isn't the easiest thing to do in the game.

There are plenty of items that are affordable, and some that are definitely worth saving up money for, while other items leave players totally surprised when they get a look at the price tag. Here are 10 items in Animal Crossing: New Horizons that look cheap but are actually expensive.

10 Chessboard - 95,000 Bells

There are plenty of games and toys that can be purchased in the game that are reasonably priced and make a great addition to a playroom or lounge area. However, finding this chessboard at Nook's Cranny is a total shocker, with it costing nearly 100 grand.

That's a lot of dough for such a small, tabletop game! Players can find pinball machines, arcade games, and table tennis in Animal Crossing for thousands cheaper than this chess set, making its high price super unexpected.

9 Aluminum Briefcase - 100,000 Bells

This briefcase can be found once the player's Nook's Cranny is upgraded to it's bigger, second size. It's a decoration that serves no purpose other than that when someone interacts with it, the case will open and reveal rows of gold bars inside. The price for this decorative item is quite steep and really doesn't look worth it at all at first glance or when it's closed.

It seems the gold bars that can be found inside the case make the price a little more reasonable, though 100,000 Bells is still quite a lot for such a bland looking piece when unopened.

8 Elaborate Kimono Stand - 220,000 Bells

This beautifully painted kimono with a wood and gold stand is very pretty, but the price point it boasts is definitely unexpected. Other home decor goods and tapestries are nowhere near the 220,000 Bells that this item costs!

While the design is very unique, customizable, and is definitely a great addition to a home, the cost for this item is completely out of range of what players would most likely predict. You can find the elaborate kimono stand from Nook's Cranny and can get it in a variety of styles and colors.

7 Kitchen Island - 170,000 Bells

You might want to save up some Bells before decorating your dream Animal Crossing: New Horizons kitchen. A simple kitchen island, which is no larger than many other tables you can set in your kitchen, goes for a whopping 170,000 Bells.

Plus, you can only sit down a couple of items on its surface since the sink and stovetop take up some space on top. The price will definitely come as a shocker to those looking to upgrade their kitchen design.

6 Cello - 130,000 Bells

There are many musical instruments that players can find across the game, from pianos to tambourines to guitars. The more classical the instrument gets, the more expensive it becomes. This is pretty evident in the whopping 130,000 Bells that the cello costs.

This seems a little high in price since an electric guitar only costs a simple 3,100 Bells. Who knew that a cello would cost exactly half the price of a full grand piano! This musical instrument, among many others, can be found for purchase at Nook's Cranny.

5 Double Door Refrigerator - 60,000 Bells

This one comes as quite a shocker when comparing it to the measly 5,100 Bells that the regular refrigerator costs. The creators of the game clearly thought the double doors on this kitchen item were worth the extra 54,000 Bells, though it doesn't exactly seem like it.

When putting together the perfect kitchen, choosing the cheaper fridge might be easier on the bank account, but the more expensive double-doored one is still on top of some player's lists. The double door refrigerator can be found for sale at Nook's Cranny in a multitude of colors.

4 Papa Bear - 8,500 Bells

Were you looking for the Papa Bear to match your Mama Bear? This giant gem can be found for sale at Nook's Cranny, along with the bear's counterpart, the Papa Panda. Be prepared, for it'll cost nearly 10,000 Bells to get this father addition to the stuffed teddy bear family.

Though the Papa Bear is pretty big, buying a teddy bear for nearly twice as much as a bed sounds a little odd. However, he will look pretty cute sitting next to a tea set with Mama Bear and Baby Bear. Plus, you'll need this big dude, along with the other two variants of bears, to DIY a giant teddy bear!

3 Imperial Dining Lantern - 190,000 Bells

This hanging lantern is needed to complete the Imperial set, but it'll cost you a large sum. For nearly 200,000 Bells, this lantern will look great hovering over the Imperial Dining Table with its glowing red light and hanging tassels.

Though it's quite small and doesn't look too out of the ordinary when it comes to indoor lighting, this lantern deals a blow to player's wallets with how incredibly expensive it is.

2 Air Conditioner - 63,000 Bells

An air conditioning unit that is small, grey, and a doesn't add much to the scenery when it comes to beauty, is currently listed at a whopping 63,000 Bells at Nook's Cranny. The item doesn't appear to look expensive upon first seeing it, so its hefty price tag is quite surprising.

A price of over 60,000 Bells for a basic air conditioning machine might not seem to be worth it for some players, though beating the island heat with an A/C unit might be worthy of the pretty penny for others.

1 Ring- 69,000 Bells

Though a diamond ring in a jewelry box might cost a little more than a bed or a table, the high price point that this tiny item has in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a little mind-blowing. The item itself is very small, being that it's just a ring in a box.

However, it costs nearly 70,000 Bells to own. Plus, the player can't even put it on to wear, it's just a decoration! If you're looking to propose to your Animal Crossing buddy sometime soon, you might end up spending some big bucks to give them a bright and shiny diamond ring.
