Although Angry Birds has become synonymous with mobile gaming ever since its meteoric rise to popularity, there are occasional lulls in Rovio's release schedule for updates or sequels. Angry Birds Space managed to reclaim the top spot in the App Store after its release in May, but now, unsatisfied with their dominion over portable devices, Rovio has teamed up with Activision to bring the Angry Birds Trilogy to consoles.

Rovio revealed that the Angry Birds franchise would be making its way to the bigger screens at E3 this year, but did not announce in what capacity. Now we know that the release will take the form of a trilogy package composed of Angry Birds, Angry Birds Seasons, and Angry Birds Rio.

Not only is this the first major multiplatform release of the games, but they have been completely rebuilt for the HD consoles. IGN spoke to Rovio's Executive Vice President of Games Petri Järvilehto, and he had the following to say regarding what has changed for Trilogy:

"You can think of the game as the ultimate collector’s edition. There are new cinematics, extras and other entertaining content. In addition all of the existing material has been uprezzed and re-treated for the high-resolution and big screen."

In addition to the new features unique to this retail edition, both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the game will have Kinect and Move support, respectively. Don't worry though, you can still sit on your couch and play with an old school controller if you so choose.

As for the 3DS, Angry Birds Trilogy will support both 3D and StreetPass. Rovio has not yet indicated how StreetPass will be implemented.

After having reached one billion downloads earlier this year, it is clear that the market for one of the most recognizable names in gaming has refused to fade. Considering the revamped graphics and extra features, along with the fact that this is a full console release, Trilogy is going to see a marked increase in price over its iOS and Android counterparts.

So Ranters, how do you feel about Angry Birds on the consoles? Are the high-definition visuals and Kinect/Move/3D support enough to warrant another purchase? Let us know in the comments below.

Angry Birds Trilogy will be available this holiday season on Xbox 360, PlayStation3, and Nintendo 3DS.
