Angry Birds was de-listed from mobile storefronts back in 2019. However, last summer, Rovio released a letter announcing plans to bring the beloved classic back to mobile screens. In the letter, Rovio apologized to fans of the franchise for de-listing titles such as Angry Birds Classic and Angry Birds Seasons with no warning. It continued to explain the decision as necessary, citing the issues with maintaining and updating games built using older technologies. The game was originally built in a proprietary engine, but the new version has been built in Unity to perform more efficiently on newer mobile devices. The new remake of Angry Birds will be fully updated and playable on modern mobile platforms with continuing support.

The letter released last summer was followed by a short Q&A. It confirmed that several of the games had to be entirely rebuilt for modern devices. At the moment it is unconfirmed which Rovio titles are in redevelopment, but the developer has an extensive catalog of mobile titles that could make a return including Angry Birds Legends, Angry Birds Space, and Angry Birds: Star Wars.

Angry Birds' success was a worldwide phenomenon and spawned a massive total of 21 games in the series and a further 7 spin-off titles with several further titles rumored to be in production. At the peak of its popularity, it inspired two 3D computer-animated film adaptations and an animated TV show on Netflix. The Angry Birds series has amassed over a truly staggering 4.5 billion downloads to date.

Rovio Classics: Angry Birds is available to download now on Android and iOS.
