Although there's been a number of mobile games that have dominated the world, few had the staying power of Angry Birds. From two feature film adaptations to Star Wars tie-in games and even an upcoming Netflix series, it extended far beyond being just a simple app, generating a huge audience that grew obsessed with its casual physics-based puzzle gameplay. However, many of the original iterations of the series have vanished in the years since their release, meaning fans can no longer enjoy the franchise's classic levels.

It seems the developer behind the mobile sensation, Rovio, wants to correct that mistake, announcing today that it's working hard to resurrect some of the older Angry Birds titles. Revealed in a press release on the studio's website, it confirms it removed many of the franchise's first forays into the mobile space in an effort to build bigger and better games for its audiences, although it's now decided that was the wrong move to make.

"Maintaining the highest quality of updates and live operations isn’t possible with our older games," the team reveals when discussing the rationale behinds its initial decision. "Today’s mobile technology and games landscape has evolved to a place where supporting them was untenable." However, it assures fans it's listening to their frustrations about the removal and announces it has something in the works that will see them restored. How exactly? Rovio can't say quite yet, although it urges fans to stay tuned for updates in the future. It also gives a tease as to which games they might see resurface, specifically referencing Angry Birds Classic and Angry Birds Seasons.

The statement is followed by a short Q&A, with Rovio filling in a few of the blanks left by the press release. It confirms that several of the games will have to be entirely rebuilt to work on modern devices, hence why it can't just relist them on their respective app stores, while it also claims it'll strive to make them as close to their original releases as possible, citing that the team has a lot of nostalgia for the original Angry Birds games. As for where people can hear more, it specifically notes its Twitter account will be the place to go for future updates. The developer has released an array of Angry Birds titles over the years, so it'll be interesting to see what makes a return.

In the meantime, players can experience a host of other fun experiences on their mobile devices, including the likes of Pokemon GO, Genshin Impact, and Among Us. There's even more set to come in the near future as well, whether that's next month's Pokemon MOBA Pokemon Uniteor the new Transformers AR game from Niantic, Transformers Heavy Metal.
