The long-awaited debut of Spider-Man: No Way Home had its big premiere back on December 13th of 2021. The A-list stars of the film, Tom Holland and Zendaya were of course in attendance, along with many more household names. However, it’s hard to imagine what it must have been like for Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire the night of the premiere, knowing that they couldn’t be in attendance due to spoilers. Being tasked with keeping possibly one of the biggest secrets in Marvel history is one thing, but having to keep it still while everyone else is able to celebrate together, must have been difficult.

Luckily, Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire were able to have a special, little outing together in order to commemorate the big moment on screen. The two stars might have taken a big risk in attending the premiere, but it seems like they were able to keep their secret up until now.

Garfield recently expressed in an interview with Entertainment Tonight, “I still can’t believe it happened. I snuck into a theater on opening night and just watched with my baseball cap on and my mask. In fact, I was also with Tobey. Me and Tobey snuck into a theater together and no one knew we were there. It was just a really beautiful thing to share together.”

Garfield was quick to latch onto the project with very little hesitation. In another interview, the actor revealed that there was a very specific aspect of the pitch that sold him on returning to the role. He saw something very special in having three very distinct versions of the same character all together and learning from one another; specifically, teaming up with a younger, less experienced Peter (Tom Holland) and one who was older and wiser (Tobey Maguire).

This is why it must have been an even more emotionally intimate moment for Maguire and Garfield to be able to share the moment of them witnessing all three Peters also share the screen together. For Garfield especially, his return allowed for his Spider-Man to get the resolution he needed in regards to his character’s ambiguous ending. He stated, “I am just so grateful. I’m just really, really grateful that I got to tie up some loose ends for the Peter that I was playing. I love that character and I’m grateful that I got to work with these incredible actors, this incredible director, and Marvel in conjunction with Sony. It was joyful and a feeling of closure for me.”

Garfield went on to also share that he had improvised the “I love you” line towards the end of the movie to Holland and Maguire. This goes to prove that the bond between the trio of actors was just as genuine off as it seemed on screen. While the appearance of the former Spider-Men was kept fairly well under wraps for so long (with the exception of some unverified leaks), it now seems that the cat is out of the bag.
