Coming on the heels of a busy San Diego Comic-Con, Disney appears to be teeing up some big news for audiences to dig into when D23 kicks off in September. Gamers, especially, have plenty to look forward to at the event as Disney will host a digital showcase for its slate of upcoming games, with much of the focus being on several Star Wars and Marvel games currently in development. One of said Marvel games is known to be from Skydance's Amy Hennig, one of the creative leads behind the first three Uncharted games, and a new press release confirms her game will be an "ensemble" title featuring multiple heroes.

Amy Hennig's Marvel game is one of two games the industry veteran is heading up as part of Skydance New Media, a relatively new division within Skydance the former Uncharted director joined in 2019. The aforementioned Marvel game was the division's first title announced in conjunction with Marvel Entertainment in October 2021, and is known to be a narrative-driven action-adventure title. Skydance followed up in April 2022 by announcing it was also working on another such game with Lucasfilm Games set inside the Star Wars universe.

Previously, little information about either upcoming game had been shared publicly other than the respective genres and focus on narrative, which isn't surprising given Hennig's tenure at Naughty Dog. It doesn't appear to be changing any time soon for Skydance's Star Wars game. That said, Disney has confirmed some additional information about the studio's upcoming Marvel game set to be part of the D23 Disney and Marvel Games Showcase. In a press release, Disney says the game will be an "ensemble game," set to feature multiple heroes rather than focusing on a single character.

marvel and skydance partnership

The next question then is will the game feature a random collection of heroes, or will it star one of the many teams from Marvel's vast comic history? While the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy are the most well known teams in pop culture and are safe choices, the teams have already starred in namesake games thanks to Marvel's partnership with Square Enix. Players may also be safe to assume it isn't going to be the Midnight Suns as the supernatural-focused team are starring in their own tactical strategy game from Firaxis Games.

However, Marvel isn't lacking in options, either, if Skydance decided to not focus on any of the aforementioned teams. The two safest, most well known options would be either the Fantastic Four or X-Men, the latter of which has seen its fair share of video games. Skydance could also decide to focus on some lesser known teams such as X-Force, the Defenders, Alpha Flight, Thunderbolts, or the West Coast Avengers, with each team offering a unique spin on Skydance's game, such as the Thunderbolts' roster of villains and anti-heroes who can be a little more violent or West Coast Avengers letting the developers play around with more humorous heroes such as Squirrel Girl.

Skydance's Marvel game is currently in development.
