Among Us hit new heights during the early pandemic as one of the best games to bring people together in a time when people couldn’t actually be together. Although the influx from then may have died down some, Among Us remains incredibly popular for its strong approach to the social deduction genre on, so far, PC, mobile platforms, and the Nintendo Switch.
Without a doubt, many Among Us fans are excited to see the game hit PlayStation and Xbox Platforms. It was first announced for Xbox consoles at the end of 2020, confirming that Among Us would join the brand's list of Xbox Game Pass titles. PlayStation’s announcement followed a few months after in April 2021, where it was announced for the platform alongside a Ratchet and Clank crossover. Understandably, many are likely curious where these platforms are, with the latest Among Us dev giving fans a little more information.
Among discussion of server issues, the incoming roles, and a community spotlight, Among Us did reveal that the console versions of the game are on track to release by the end of 2021, though later than originally intended. Among Us developer Innersloth has refrained from giving a specific date yet, as the “ideal” release date was revealed to have been in September. It’s October now. Video game development is incredibly difficult, as proven by recently-surfaced events regarding God of War: Ragnarok’s delay, and so it’s understandable to try to make sure that an announced date sticks.
While it didn’t make its September release, the reason for that is because of the many updates coming to Among Us and ensuring that all of these changes are “up to snuff and compatible across ALL platforms.” In short, the developer wanted to avoid releasing a version for PlayStation and Xbox that was suboptimal, and adding in more platforms complicates the upcoming updates and all that even more.
The update ends with InnerSloth thanking fans for their patience, and at the very least, it does reaffirm that Among Us is coming to consoles in 2021. With the prolonged silence on this, it’s likely reassuring for many fans who want to check out the game on their console instead of phone or PC. And, luckily, there’s not much time left in 2021, so fans will likely learn more about Among Us on consoles relatively soon.
Among Us is available now on PC, Mobile, and Switch, with PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X versions are in development.
