A fan of Among Us has created a clever phone lock screen that references one of the game's tasks, complete with a special punishment for "imposters" who enter the wrong password. The lock screen is available for free download, although many phones will not support it.
Among Us requires its crew members to complete a range of tasks to keep the game's spaceship running successfully. One of the more difficult tasks in the game is the Start Reactor task, which asks players to memorize and repeat patterns of button presses using on-screen keypads. Although the task is located in different parts of the ship depending on which map the game is using, it is generally one of the more time-consuming tasks. This makes it a tense task, as a skilled Among Us imposter could easily sneak up and kill anyone completing it.
Twitter user @Litteen created a phone lock screen based on a mock-up made by fellow Among Us fan @BigIlel. The lock screen replicates the Start Reactor task, complete with the keypad from Among Us appearing on screen. If the user inputs the wrong password, the phone displays the iconic scene of a player being evicted into space. As the player character flies into space, a notice appears stating "You were not the owner of this phone." The lock screen uses the red player character, which may disappoint fans hoping to show off their Among Us "crewsonas" on their phones.
It's important to note that those interested will need a jailbroken iPhone running iOS 13 or iOS 14 in order to download and use the lock screen. This may substantially lower the number of people who can access the lock screen. Although a huge number of iPhone users play Among Us, far fewer of them have a jailbroken phone. As much as fans like Among Us, it may be going too far to ask them to jailbreak their phones just for the sake of a themed lock screen.
In a companion post on Reddit, the creator also noted that users could remove the "cancel/delete" and "emergency" buttons from the interface, if they so chose. In order to prevent the Face ID feature from prematurely interrupting a login attempt, users can also deactivate that as well. This can help improve immersion, although it can be dangerous to remove emergency features. Perhaps players looking for extreme immersion should try Among Us in VR, instead.
Given the extreme popularity of Among Us, it's no surprise that fans are trying to bring the game's characters and aesthetic to life in ways the game cannot do. For example, in addition to the phone lock screen, some high-profile celebrities even dressed as Among Us crew members for Halloween. It's hard to tell what fans might come up with next, but the fanbase shows no signs of slowing down any time soon.
