Among Us has seen a huge boost in popularity recently, as many people take advantage of the social aspects of this deceptively simple game to play with strangers or friends online. There are a lot of Among Us tactics that players can use in just about any game, but for those who've mastered the basic Mafia-like game mode, they may be interested in playing "Hide and Seek."

Not only have the Among Us devs seen a huge boost in their numbers in the past few months, but multiple streamers and even public figures like politicians have taken advantage of the game's popularity. On October 20, US Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez played Among Us with popular streamers to over 400,000 concurrent viewers at its highest moments. Both popular streamers and regular players have discovered new, unofficial ways to change up the game and make it fresh.

The McElroy brothers, players/writers of the popular The Adventure Zone actual play podcast and graphic novel series, livestreamed a game of Among Us with friends including voice actors Friskk and Erika Ishii. Partway through the stream they started playing a game of Among Us Hide and Seek, although the mode didn't originate with them. There's no setting in the game that turns this mode on, but players will have to mess with the setup themselves, and here's how.

imposter crewmate

The host of the game is in charge of changing the settings, but before creating a new game, they should make sure there's only one imposter, since having two can be too difficult for the crew in this mode. Then, the host should set crewmate vision higher, like to 1.5, and imposter vision all the way down to 0.25. Then, they should make the kill cooldown shorter and the crewmate speed faster than the imposter's. Upon starting the game, something unusual happens: the imposter in Among Us reveals themselves from the beginning.

Crewmates then agree to not report, call emergency meetings, or vote the imposter off, since everyone knows who they are. Crewmates then enter a race to complete their tasks and solve emergencies (as they come up) as soon as possible, while hiding from the imposter. The imposter can't see well, so there may be situations where the crewmates see the imposter coming and can either hide or run away. The game may seem stacked in the crew's favor, but players should keep in mind that since the kill cooldown timer is lowered, the imposter can kill and win easier.

Among Us is out now on PC and mobile devices.
