Despite having released in 2018, InnerSloth's Among Us came to prominence in 2020 as many sought out multiplayer games amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. In the wake of this growing popularity fans have created content for the social deduction game, including animations for Among Us kills based on other video games, anime, and more. Now, one artist has garnered attention for a montage of kills based on popular horror movies.

YouTube-based animator Mactoto uploaded a video called "Horror Among Us Kills" on October 17, 2020. The small creator has only been active since December 2019, and works using Procreate on an iPad Pro, according to their channel's About page. As a result their Among Us video has not gotten a lot of traction, boasting just above 500 views as of this writing, but the 10-second montage saw new life after being uploaded to Twitter yesterday.

Mactoto's video features three kill animations based on horror movies: Alien, in which a crewmate is killed by a chestburster after being attacked by a facehugger; Poltergeist, in which a ghostly figure drags the crewmate into a television; and It, in which the crewmate is killed by Pennywise with an exploding balloon. After posting it to Twitter, the official Among Us account responded with laughter, and Mactoto posted another message surprised at how their video was "blowing up" after they woke up.

The conceit of Among Us is already similar to another famous horror property, The Thing, with crewmembers having to figure out which people among them are secretly alien imposters. Fans have created horror movie trailers based on Among Us, so it makes sense that a creator like Mactoto would latch onto the idea of adding more famous references into the game.

Among Us' rise to prominence years after it released is relatively unprecedented, particularly for such a small indie title. Among Us was one of the most-search terms on Google in 2020, and there have been major events set within the game hosted by popular streamers, musicians, elected officials, and more.

Following the game's success, InnerSloth decided to stop production on its sequel to instead work on expanding what the title already contains. A new Among Us map called The Airship based on old Henry Stickmin games was revealed during The Game Awards 2020, and alongside its release will come new cosmetics, kill animations, and more. The map still has an early 2021 release date, so fans will have to wait to see when it arrives.

Among Us is available now on Mobile, Nintendo Switch, and PC. It will be released for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S in 2021.
