One indie game that has been a runaway hit is Innersloth's Among Us. Originally released in 2018, the game saw a huge re-surgence in playability due to its online multiplayer aspect, since the pandemic forced a lot of people to stay home. This explosion in popularity saw the game being ported from Steam and Mobile devices to current-gen consoles, as well as Among Us Physical Collector's Edition releases. Not to be outdone, many fan projects have been released revolving around the game, from animations to full-on fan games. One fan has decided to turn Among Us into a traditional 2D fighting game, titled Among Us Arena.

Starcutter, or ResidentBeedrill on Twitter, is a casual fighting game fan and developer. Some of the games they're a fan of include Dragon Ball FighterZ, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and Them's Fightin' Herds, among others. He's also contributed mods to games like Rivals of Aether, creating a playable Kid Goku character submitted to the Rivals Workshop on Steam. It's clear to see that they're a huge fan of some of the best fighting games available, which is the primary inspiration for this fan game.

Among Us Arena was released onto itch.io for free, where it pits the different colored imposters in a 2D fighting game. It has three game modes, one for training, one for a traditional arcade mode, and one multiplayer mode. The game also comes with both local and online multiplayer modes, though online play requires both players being on the same build and being in the same region to ensure the best connectivity and stability.

There are 16 selectable colors that players can choose from, though they share the same moves. The moveset involves the usage of the many different weapons that Imposters can use, such as knives and guns. Very shortly after the game's release, many different videos were uploaded to Twitter showcasing the combos that players were able to pull off. These show some hyper aggressive plays that can stack some incredible hits and damage.

The game has been a real hit for Starcutter, as evidenced by these videos and overall positive reception towards the concept of taking Among Us into the fighting game space. A community Discord server has been opened up for players to discuss Among Us Arena as well as overall updates. Among Us Arena is noted to be a little lacking, as the game is only being developed by a single person as a side project. It's further been noted that the game isn't planning to have too many other new features, as with any donations made will be going towards the development of a major unnamed fighting game that they are working on.
