In Amnesia: Rebirth, Tasi Trianon has plenty of obstacles thrown in her way. After awakening from a plane crash and navigating a series of tunnels, Tasi will eventually come across an abandoned French Foreign Legion fort. As players soon discover, the fort's occupants met with a grisly end.
Leaving the fort requires opening a gate, a task that proves to be a bit more complicated than it appears. In the center of the fort's courtyard sits a French Renault tank that's still operational. Loading and firing the tank at the gate is the key to leaving the fort. It's a rather straightforward puzzle, as this guide will illustrate.
Players should first investigate the sound of the radio signal upon entering the fort before following this guide.
Crafting The Tank Shell
The first step to opening the gate is crafting an operable piece of ammunition for the tank to fire. Players should approach the tank and open the hatch on the side of the turret. Enter the tank and grab the keys from the small shelf mounted on the wall.
Exit the tank. To the right of the tank, note the tower with the French flag on it. Players should spot a short set of stairs leading down to a locked door: the Arsenal. Use the keys obtained from the tank to unlock the doors and enter the Arsenal. Once inside, follow the path until fans spot a red mechanism used for crafting tank shells. Note the list of ingredients: Sulfur, Saltpeter, and Charcoal.
Underneath the ingredients sign, players will find a note with a clue to the location of the Ointment of Sulfur. To the left of the mechanism, a similar note regarding Saltpeter sits atop a small desk. Read both of these notes. Head down the hallway and take note of the tripwire trap behind the second barricade.
Head through the double doors. Players will see a locked metal gate and a dead man sitting in a chair behind it. The gate is booby-trapped with a grenade, so don't open it. Snag a key from the other corpse (it's in his hand) slumped against another gate to the left.
Close all windows except for the one farthest to the left. Open it and follow the wooden scaffolding until the path ends. Players will need to make a difficult jump to the next window. Players will now be on the other side of the locked gate mentioned earlier. In a medicine cabinet past the stone altar is the Sulfur Ointment.
Approach the dead body in the chair. Carefully unhook the wire on the door handle of the gate to remove the threat of the grenade. Use the key from earlier to safely open the door. Exit the metal gate and leave this room. Before heading back to the mechanism, enter the small room to the left. There, players will be able to boil the Sulfur Ointment and grind the Charcoal.
First, start with the Charcoal. Pick up a piece of charcoal from the pile and insert it into the grinder. Close the lid and rotate the crank to grind the Charcoal into a fine powder. Done!
Next, it's time to boil the Sulfur Ointment. Notice a small pot with a candle underneath it. Remove the lid, place the Ointment inside the pot, then put the lid back on. Light the candle underneath the pot with a match and watch it boil. Complete!
Now, exit the Arsenal. Return to the Quartermaster's Store. Players would have been in this area earlier when following the sound of the radio. Enter the building from the back entrance and take a left up the stairs. At the top, enter the first door on the left. In the backroom, sitting on a shelf, is some Saltpeter. Exit the Quartermaster's Store.
Return to the Arsenal. Approach the red mechanism and add all three ingredients to the empty shell casing. Pull the handle. Fans will now have a working shell for the tank. Now it's time to load the tank and destroy the gate!
Loading & Firing The Tank
Return to the tank in the courtyard and enter it. First, load the shell.
Then, slide this lever to the left to allow the tank's turret to swivel.
Finally, aim the turret at the gate and fire!
With that, the gate is now open! Unfortunately, the ground beneath the tank will give way and Tasi will be momentarily knocked unconscious. Keep swiveling the tank's turret to the left to create an opening to escape. With that, the puzzles associated with the tank are finally complete!
