Frictional Games creative director Thomas Grip announces on the PlayStation Blog that Amnesia: The Dark Descent, A Machine for Pigs, and Justine are all coming to PS4.

One of the most critically acclaimed horror games of all time is Amnesia: The Dark Descent. It released to rave reviews six years ago, inspiring countless copycats, and putting genuine horror games back on the map. Now console gamers are getting the chance to see what all the fuss is about, because six years after its start on PC, Amnesia: The Dark Descent is coming to PlayStation 4 on November 22nd.

When the award-winning Amnesia comes to PS4 next month, it won't be alone. In fact, it will be bundled with its sequel, Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs – a decidedly gorier followup to the original – as well as the expansion Amnesia: Justine. Justine is a departure from the other games in that it doesn't feature the same exploration elements, but is rather a series of trials inspired by the Saw films. Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs, meanwhile, is not a direct sequel to The Dark Descent, but as we pointed out in our A Machine for Pigs review, it still provides an unnerving atmosphere and plenty of scares.

Unfortunately, Frictional Games didn't share any additional information about the Amnesia PS4 collection besides what games are included and when it will be available. We don't know if it will be a digital-only release or if it will have a physical edition, and we also aren't sure what the price will be. Since it's three games in one, it's possible that Frictional will release it at the standard $60, but since the games are all at least a few years old, it may launch at a budget price instead.

Regardless of the price point, the Amnesia collection would have made a perfect game for people to play this Halloween, so its November release date is an odd choice. However, in its announcement post, Frictional referenced times it tried to bring Amnesia to consoles in the past, only for "deals to fall through," so perhaps a deal was cut with Sony at the last minute to finally bring the games to console.

Frictional already has an established relationship with Sony, so Amnesia's PS4 console exclusivity makes sense. SOMA, a horror game that Frictional developed for years after Amnesia, is console-exclusive to PS4, and earned decent reviews when it launched last year. SOMA took a year to become profitable, but even so, Sony must see value in Frictional Games and the titles it brings to the table.

If Frictional's relationship with Sony is as extensive as it seems to be, then perhaps Sony is having the studio create a PlayStation VR-exclusive horror game. Frictional has a proven track record in the horror genre, and while the studio hasn't dipped its toe into the virtual reality waters just yet, it's hard to see how it wouldn't be successful in creating a VR horror game. Of course, that's just speculation at this time, but if enough fans go out and buy the Amnesia collection on PS4, it would certainly help solidify the partnership between Sony and Frictional Games.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent, A Machine for Pigs, and Justine will all be available for PS4 on November 22, 2016. The games are already available on PC.
