The AMD Ryzen 5000 series of Zen 3 CPUs, the latest in the line of Threadripper processors, have been widely available for over a year now. The Ryzen 5 5600x, 5800, 5800X, 5900, 5900X, 5950X offered a diverse selection of high performance desktop CPUs intended for users both mainstream and enthusiast. It seems that AMD is now ready to take the line to its next natural progression, with reports indicating that a series of Ryzen 5000 series Threadripper PRO CPUs will release in early 2022.

The report comes from VideoCardz, which cites an anonymous source that goes by the name Disclosuzen. Disclosuzen states that these Ryzen 5000 PRO CPUs will officially launch on March 8, 2022. Five different CPUs in total will be released, though it's unclear if all five CPUs will be released on March 8 or if they will be rolled out similar to the initial release of 5000 series CPUs. The names of the CPUs will be the Ryzen 5 PRO 5995WX, 5975 WX, 5965WX, 5955WX, and 5945WX.

Early details regarding these new Threadripper CPUs are scant, however there are rumored cores and threads for each rumored processor. In decreasing order, the chips are rumored to feature 64 cores and 128 threads, 32c/64t, 24c/48t, 16c/32t, and 12c/24t. All five CPUs have said to have a max TDP of 280w. Lastly, only a single CPU has their base clock rumored, and no turbo clock has been revealed yet. The base clock is 3.6 GHz for the Ryzen 5000 Pro 5975, the second most powerful chip of the line.

The lack of firm details about the 5000 series of CPUs lends credence to another aspect of VideoCardz' report. It says that AMD board partners believe these new Threadripper PRO CPUs are coming too late, following a delay of a year from when they were supposed to originally launch. The delay could be explained by a change in manufacturing, shifting to AMD's new Zen3+ 6nm chiplets for the CPUs.

Official word on the 5000 PRO CPUs will likely be coming soon, with a rumored announcement coming at CES 2022 in January. That comes with a warning on its own, though, as the latest wave of the COVID-19 pandemic has many CES partners canceling their plans.

AMD isn't the only CPU manufacturer rumored to be making an announcement at CES 2022. Intel's Alder Lake line-up of CPUs is rumored to potentially expand in 2022, as well. It's not going to be as hot of a competitive year as the GPU market will be, if there's any stock available for enthusiasts in the first place, but it's certainly worth looking forward to for both AMD and Intel CPU fans.
