This year's Consumer Electronic Show kicked off recently, going on until this Sunday, with some big announcements already being made by some influential companies. There's plenty of tech and gaming news at CES 2022 for those interested in what's up-and-coming, with Sony discussing its PlayStation VR2, and Nvidia finally unveiling its RTX 3090 Ti. AMD is also there with some news, and CEO Lisa Su has made it apparent that the company will be launching some new products this year, including a new Ryzen processor.

According to a recent report, the president of AMD has unveiled the next generation of its gaming CPUs, the Ryzen 7000 Zen 4. One of the interesting things noted about this processor is that its heatsink looks like a jigsaw piece. Not a huge amount was given about its specs, but the report goes on to state that the Zen 4 will support DDR5 and PCIe 5.0. It's also expected to be out around spring of this year, with Su adding that the performance of the processor "looks incredible."

That's not all from the California-based tech giant. At the event, AMD also announced its budget RX 6500 XT graphics card, something that has been rumored for some time, with the GPU expected to retail for $199 and is due for release on January 19. At this price, it's not going to knock the socks off of the much beefier cards from bitter rivals Nvidia, but with 4 GB of VRAM and the inclusion of AMD's FidelityFX Super Sampling upscaling technology, it will be a nice cheap piece of gaming hardware for those don't want to stretch to the high-end of the market.

This announcement also contrasts a little with the aforementioned details about Nvidia's upcoming 3090 Ti, which, similar to the 6500 XT, has been on a lot of people's lips for a while now. Given that this will be a souped up version of the RTX 3090, it would be unfair to compare this to AMD's latest budget card, given that they have widely different specs.

On top of the Ryzen 7000 Zen 4, sightings of the AMD Threadripper 5000 CPU have also been doing the rounds lately, which is supposedly due for release this March. All-in-all, there's a lot to be excited for from companies like AMD and other big names that are making announcements at CES 2022. Despite being just one week into the new year, it seems as though it's going to be a busy, and highly competitive, twelve months for the tech industry, especially with Intel also joining the graphics card ring.
