It appears that Aquaman fans would rather not see Amber Heard make an appearance in the first film's sequel. While the plans are for the actress to return as Aquaman's love interest Mera at the moment, a petition to remove her from the movie is blowing up rather quickly.

Heard is in the middle of what has been a particularly nasty and very public lawsuit brought by her ex-husband Johnny Depp. The trial started on April 11 after a $50 million defamation lawsuit was filed against Heard by her ex for writing an oped in the Washington Post that alleged she was a victim of domestic abuse by the Pirates of the Caribbean actor. Despite the fact that the actress has filed a $100 million countersuit, Depp has alleged that he was in fact the victim of abuse at the hands of Heard and it appears there is a growing number of fans who believe his side of things.

In order to show their support for Depp, fans have started a Change.org petition asking that Amber Heard be removed from Aquaman 2. In the explanation for the need for the petition, it claims that Heard "has been exposed as a domestic abuser" and goes on to state that Depp suffered for years at the hands of the actress and singles out an incident where she allegedly punched him in the face and "shattered" his finger with a vodka bottle.

Amber Heard Petition

After a continued litany of alleged actions by Heard that show she is really the abuser rather than the other way around, the petition states that Warner Bros. and DC need to take action quickly against the actress saying that they must remove her from the role of Mera. The petition has seen a surge in support since it first launched and at the time of writing, it had gathered nearly 2.4 million signatures.

The public reactions to the trial have been piling up both among fans and apparently even some of the people who work with the performers at the center of the fight. That includes Heard's Aquaman co-star, Jason Momoa who followed Depp on social media earlier this week, sparking some to think that move was a sign of support for the Fantastic Beasts star.

The petition is hardly the first time that Aquaman fans have envisioned a world where Amber Heard would get removed from the franchise. One Instagram user even went so far as to create a piece of fan art that shows Emilia Clarke taking over the Mera role.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is set to release in theaters on March 17, 2023.
