Right now is an exciting time to be a Battlefield fan. DICE will soon be giving the upcoming Battlefield 2042 a full unveiling during the EA Play Live event, and fans can look forward to getting their hands on the game later this year. Now there's even more reason for Battlefield enthusiasts to be excited, as those that missed out on the previous two games in the series now have the opportunity to play them for free, as long as they have an Amazon Prime subscription.

Amazon Prime Gaming is currently giving away Battlefield 1 for free to subscribers, and soon it will be giving away Battlefield V as well. Battlefield V will be free starting Monday, August 2, giving fans of the franchise a little over a week to claim Battlefield 1 for their collection.

For those unfamiliar with the games, Battlefield 1 is set during World War 1 and earned mostly positive reviews at the time of its release. In fact, it was seen a sort of return to form for the franchise and DICE after some off years, and is generally considered one of the better Battlefield games in recent years. Battlefield V reviews weren't quite as positive, but the game was still relatively well-received.

Whereas Battlefield 1 is set during World War 1, Battlefield V is instead set during World War 2. It features campaign and multiplayer modes, along with the Firestorm battle royale. Unfortunately for Battlefield V, the Firestorm battle royale mode didn't quite take off like the battle royale modes in other games did. There are rumors that Battlefield 2042 will have a battle royale mode at some point after launch, but the developers have denied these claims.

In any case, this is a great opportunity for anyone interested to try the two latest games in the Battlefield series while they wait for Battlefield 2042. The Battlefield 2042 release date is October 22, so there's still a few more months to wait, but fans won't actually have to wait that long to play the game. A Battlefield 2042 open beta is planned to take place at some point prior to the game's release date, giving fans the opportunity to try ahead of time.

It's possible that fans will learn the Battlefield 2042 open beta start date during the EA Play Live 2021 event. Battlefield fans will just have to tune in to the EA Play Live event on July 22 at 10am PT to find out for sure, and they can check out Battlefield 1 through Amazon Prime Gaming in the meantime.
