When Amazon Prime Video began its adaption of the infamous superhero satire comic, The Boys, many things were expected to change due to the outrageous and controversial aspects of the comic books. Thanks to Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, readers of The Boys have been scarred by a grotesque, yet brilliant comic book, which houses few, if any, wholesome moments.

As the Amazon Prime Video series reaches its third season, many might wonder who the drug-loving character is, The Legend. This character is part of the many supporting and quirky characters in the comic and has a long history of intrigue in the book.

Spoiler warning for Amazon Prime Video's The Boys and the comics.

8 Knows Everything About Supes

The Legend was a comic book mogul who worked with Vought America. As part of Vought, it was The Legend’s job at Victory Comics to develop backstories, origins, and tales for the superheroes that Vought American produced, including members of The Seven. As part of Vought’s PR machine for decades, he knows practically everything there is to know about superheroes.

This information is often passed along to Butcher and the rest of The Boys, which can involve things as simple as a superhero origin story, to the location of a superhero’s home. The Legend knows everything there is to know, as he has been in the industry for decades.

7 Son Killed By Hughie

After Hughie is injected with Compound V, he is unaware of just how strong he now is. The Boys get into a punch-up with the superhero group the Teenage Kix, which included the hero Blarney Cock. This hero was the son of Queen Maeve and The Legend, a well-kept secret. Being the son of Maeve didn’t stop Hughie from punching his fist through Blarney Cock's chest.

No one seemed to care when Blarney Cock died, mainly because he was a disgusting and perverse character in The Boys. Hughie killed him, twice, since he was resurrected as a zombie. Despite how disgusting Blarney was, he was still the biological son of The Legend, just not an honorable The Boys character.

6 Vinnie’s Comics

When audiences are first introduced to Old Legend, he’s in the basement of a comic book store. This comic book store is called Vinnie’s Comics and is owned by two larger brothers. They are vulgar, rude, shout a lot of homophobic remarks, and greatly gatekeep the comic books that they should be trying to sell.

However, in the basement, is Old Legend. This character is introduced in the typical fashion that one would expect from The Boys, as he is committing a sexual act with a sex worker, before shouting profanity at Butcher and Hughie. He is seen with mountains of comic books, both on shelves and stacked atop each other.

5 Convinced Maeve To Be A Spy

After Homelander completely violates Queen Maeve’s trust, she is left disgusted and resentful for her now former boyfriend. Maeve was the subject of a cruel prank involving Homelander and Black Noir. This left Maeve hateful of The Seven, and when she went to Old Legend for support, he helped her find the courage to help The Boys.

Thanks to The Legend for being a supportive ally to Queen Maeve, The Boys had someone on the inside. Maeve planted many bugs in The Seven’s headquarters, which The Boys used to find evidence against them, and listen to their conversations.

4 Satire Of Stan Lee

Stan Lee is perhaps the most influential name and face of comic books. Stan Lee was a world-renowned comic book writer, editor, and publisher, who helped create some of the most famous superheroes to date. Stan Lee tragically passed in 2018 but left a legacy like no other.

In the comic book for The Boys, The Legend is a grotesque parody of the Marvel legend, Stan Lee. The character has a mustache, and sometimes says fun lines in a parody of Stan Lee’s “Excelsior!”. This character is certainly more of a parody than a homage, as The Legend has created a fair share of Vought hero’s stories, but at the expense of his love for drugs, sex, and foul language and ideas.

3 Missing His Feet

old legend with no feet

It is never specifically stated nor referenced, but The Legend has no feet. This is not something that the Amazon Prime Video series has explored, and perhaps it never will, since the character only appeared briefly for one scene so far, in which The Boys' Captain America parody, Soldier Boy, is involved. Yet, the comics’ version of the character is missing both feet.

This is seen for the first time towards the end of the comic, as he takes off his prosthetic feet to go to bed. It’s an odd detail, but part of the charm of the comic, which gives everyone a unique personality and appearance. Going back to the early issues, it’s clear that they are prosthetic, from how wobbly and unbalanced The Legend walks.

2 Relationship With Queen Maeve

queen maeve as an informant

When Hughie and Butcher travel to a brothel that caters to the grotesque and sometimes violent and vulgar needs of superheroes, they are given access to a secret room. This room houses all sorts of treasures for The Boys, as it holds evidence of superheroes doing sexual acts with sex workers, extreme taboo ones. The room holds photographs, recordings, and transcripts of what transpires in the rooms.

Hughie takes Queen Maeve’s file, just for himself, and discovers inside a lot of information, perhaps too much, about Maeve and her relationship with The Legend. There is an abundance of images that leave nothing to the imagination, and even Legend keeps a photo of the two of them by his bedside.

1 Killed By Butcher

Once Homelander, Black Noir, and the other superhero insurrectionists have been defeated at The White House, fans of the comic may believe that everything will end well. However, the next issue ramps up almost immediately, with Billy Butcher taking a villainous turn with the next step of his plan: wiping out everyone with Compound V, even his friends.

Butcher confronts Old Legend in his bedroom and takes away his gun. The reason Legend is on Butcher’s hit list is because of his knowledge, and what risk he could pose for sabotaging Butcher’s plan. Legend falls over as he attempts to run away, and it is implied he dies of a heart attack.

Season 3 of The Boys is available now on Amazon Prime Video.
