The latest game delay due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic is Amazon's MMO New World. Amazon made the announcement on Thursday morning that New World's new release date has been shifted to August 25. This is a postponement of three months from New World's previous release date of May 26.

Amazon cites the COVID-19 pandemic as the main reason for New World's unfortunate delay. The development team is said to be working at home and while it's still making "great progress," the ambitious nature of New World has "introduced some challenges." The extra three months are necessary so that Amazon can ensure New World meets the team's high expectations of quality.

In announcing New World's launch delay, Amazon also provided information about the game's closed beta plans. The closed beta has also understandably been delayed. Amazon plans to hold New World's closed beta starting in July, which should still offer fans plenty of time to try the MMO out before making a decision about buying the game.

Amazon promises to remain communicative with those looking forward to New World in the months to come. Details about features and other New World content will be shared as the team is able. The team put out a new article about New World's Invasions today as an example. New World's closed alpha test will also continue for the foreseeable future.
