With multiple Amazon Games projects already in development and on the way, such as MMORPG New World,  it would seems that the new publisher has no intention of slowing down any time soon. Amazon announced today that its gaming branch is set to work with Smilegate, the studio behind the popular FPS Crossfire.

Within a blogpost on the Amazon Games website, the VP of Amazon’s gaming division placed an emphasis on Smilegate’s “strong track record of creating big games that players love, built to offer years of enjoyment.” The latter bit of that quote could hint at a “living” game, similar to the recently announced game from the developers of Shadow Warrior. Though nothing is certain at this time, a later quote confirms that the game will be focused on online play like Crossfire.

Little is known about the game apart from its online nature and a release window of 2021. Whether it will eventually see a console release like Smilegate’s CrossfireX is also yet to be determined, as is the game’s genre and setting. While it would normally be safe to look at a studio's previous work to help determine what kind of game they will make next, Smilegate has a track record of making a variety of different games within unique genres. This online project with Amazon truly could be anything.

Smilegate and Amazon’s new partnership is one of many projects now being worked on by Amazon Games, with MMO New World and an upcoming Lord of the Rings game still on the way. Gamers can keep an eye out for more news on the game soon, though exactly when that information will come has not been specified.
