'Amazing Spider-Man' Concept Art Highlights Iconic Locations

A couple pieces of concept art have appeared online for Beenox’s upcoming movie tie-in The Amazing Spider-Man. Set to coincide with the film’s release, this would be Beenox’s third developmental effort featuring everyone’s favorite wall crawler.

While the film news world is abuzz with what these new images might mean for their big screen counterpart, gamers can get a better idea of the vision Beenox is exploring in The Amazing Spider-Man. Obviously, with these being concept art, there isn’t too much detail that can be gleaned, aside from a continuity between the Spidey suits in movie and game.

What we do hope to see out of Beenox's forthcoming effort is a greater emphasis on story, something that was severely lacking in Edge of Time and Shattered Dimensions. With a clearer narrative to follow, perhaps the developer can create a game that fills in those gaps in the movie and lets players be the Spider-Man they’ve always dreamed of.

Based on the concept art it does seem like Beenox might be exploring more personal elements of Peter Parker’s life, but how that figures into this Amazing Spider-Man game we can’t really say. In concept art, though, the game does look pretty stunning, a vast improvement over the rote detail that was put into the previous Spider-Man games.

There were some high hopes surrounding Beenox after Shattered Dimensions released, but a lot of that forward momentum was lost when Edge of Time, a less focused and seemingly rushed effort, was the developer’s follow-up. And now, with a movie tie-in slated as their next title it has a lot of us wary that Beenox will go the way of High Moon Studios and completely lose their way.

Still, a promise of more open world gameplay (the type that hearkens back to those truly great Spider-Man games) has us intrigued, and, after all, Beenox did deliver one pretty great Spider-Man game.

What do you think of the concept art for The Amazing Spider-Man? What are your hopes for this third Beenox-developed Spider-Man game?

The Amazing Spider-Man is slated for a Summer 2012 release on the PS3 and Xbox 360.
