Spider-Fans of the world unite; Marvel's resident web-head is once again swinging into cinemas. Sporting a whole host of extravagant enemies, beautiful damsels and dutiful students-turned teenaged crime fighters, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is certain to please longtime fans of the brand. It's also an excellent excuse for a brand new Spider-Man game.

Never ones to miss out on a good marketing opportunity, Spidey's celluloid owners aka Sony have commissioned a cross-platform tie-in title. Available on every conceivable system — short of the Commodore 64 - this web-slinging action title launched earlier today throughout the United States with European gamers made to wait until May 2.

To celebrate the title's stateside release, publisher Activision has unveiled an exciting new launch trailer, featuring plenty of familiar faces alongside Spidey himself. Cameos include Kingpin, Kraven, Black Cat and of course, Peter's troublesome bud/part-time megalomaniac Harry Osborn. To check out the brand new video, hit the link above.

In other Amazing Spider-Man 2 news, the game's Xbox One port — supposedly delayed for further refinements— has now appeared on the Xbox One Marketplace — and in totally playable form. Early reports suggest the game is functioning normally, though there is still the chance that some players may encounter real issues later in the game.

Without an official response from Activision, it remains difficult to tell whether this downloadable appearance is the result of an accident, or perhaps a deliberate move on the part of the publisher reflecting the game's final completion. Whatever the case, the title is still without a physical retail edition, which Activision claims will arrive as soon as a concrete release date can be hammered out with Microsoft. Adding to the confusion is a recent blog posting from Microsoft's own Major Nelson, claiming the title is now officially available on the 8th generation system.
