Earlier this morning, fans noticed Twitter trending Pokemon Alpha Sapphire. But why?

Alpha Sapphire released nearly six years ago in 2014. There've been no recent news updates for either it or Omega Ruby. Despite both being great games for the Nintendo 3DS, their longevity and relevance pretty much ended when their successors arrived in Pokemon Sun and Moon.

And so why Alpha Sapphire is trending nobody knows — literally. The trend simply exists. If one were to go back through the thread to find the original tweets that kicked it off, they would only discover a fan pointing out the trend happening. From there, people just started talking about the game — discussing what exactly made them love it as much as they did when it arrived.

It shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone that the biggest thing people loved about Alpha Sapphire — and Omega Ruby — were their Legendary Pokemon: the Weather Trio of Kyogre, Groudon, and Rayquaza. The two games reintroduced these Pokemon with new Primal and Mega evolutions that not only made them look even better than before but raised them to be some of the most powerful Pokemon in the series competitive history.

Even side Legendaries like Latios and Latias received some love. But because the thread revolves around Alpha Sapphire, Primal Kyogre was, of course, the one in the limelight.

Another aspect that fans praised about the game was the reimagined designs of Team Aqua. The look of the Aqua grunts changes so that they look less like burglars and more like actual pirates.

And Archie, Aqua's leader, gets a significant redesign as well. In the original Pokemon Sapphire, he didn't look anywhere near in line with the theme of the organization he was leading and the Legendary Pokemon that he was hunting. However, Alpha Sapphire dresses him up in gear and attire that's much better suited to what he stands for as the game's main antagonist.

Overall, the thread goes over what people loved about Alpha Sapphire, but no one knows how it started. Those questioning why exactly the game was trending also brought up hopes for titles such as Pokemon Black and White 3 and Pokemon Diamond and Pearl remakes. Fans have asked for Diamond and Pearl ever since seeing how well Nintendo handled Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. Here's hoping the company has plans to do something spectacular with the Creation Trio.

Pokemon Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby released November 21, 2014.
