Released in 2014, Creative Assembly's Alien: Isolation is fondly remembered by horror fans as one of the most faithful recreations of the movie world's extraterrestrial being, with its deadly stealth mechanics and terrifying atmosphere. The 2014 title is generally considered by many to be one of the best video game adaptations of the Alien franchise. Now, fans will no doubt be excited to hear that the sci-fi horror will be coming to mobile devices, seven years after originally being released on PC and console.

In a recent video uploaded to the Sega America YouTube channel, it was announced that Alien: Isolation will be coming to iOS and Android devices on December 16. The minute-long trailer shows snippets from the game in classic horror fashion, with flashes of the infamous Xenomorph hunter, as well as the antagonistic android servants that haunt the halls and rooms of the Sevastopol space station.

The description under the trailer states that iOS users can now pre-order the game, which will be priced at $14.99 / €14.99 / £12.99, while Android users will be able to pre-order it soon. As one of the scariest horror games of the last ten years, it's surprising that the mobile ports weren't made available in time for Halloween, but it being made available on phone and tablet will be pleasing to many, either those who are keen to re-experience the terror on a smaller screen, or for newcomers who have yet to experience what made Alien: Isolation such a success.

Games based off Ridley Scott or James Cameron's worlds are often quite hit-and-miss. The most recent adaptation is the co-op shooter Aliens: Fireteam, which leans more towards the marine-based high octane action of the second film, as opposed to Isolation which went much deeper into the slow burning horror. Creative Assembly's efforts came about a year after the universally panned Aliens: Colonial Marines, and many fans would probably argue that Isolation helped show the world that it was possible to make a high quality, and, above all, scary, Alien game.

The industry is currently in something of a golden age of terrifying titles, with the last console generation experiencing some fantastic horror, such as Outlast, Prey, and Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs. With Alien: Isolation coming out on mobile devices soon, there is a renewed opportunity for players to, once again, play a game of cat and mouse with one of the most vicious and deadly monsters in cinematic history.

Alien: Isolation will be coming to iOS and Android on December 16. The game is currently available on PC, PS3, PS4, Switch, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
