Regarded as something of a survival horror gem on the previous console generation, the Alan Wake Remaster is one that many fans are very excited about. With recent screenshots from the Remedy Entertainment classic already showing improvements, October 5 cannot come soon enough for those who fondly remember the original. However, there is one thing that the original game had that the remaster will be removing, as confirmed by a spokesperson for the developer.
When Alan Wake was first released back in 2010, it featured branding from real life products, some of which played an important role in some of the gameplay. Company's like Verizon and Energizer batteries had their logos shown on billboards throughout Bright Falls where the game takes place. However, a PR rep for Remedy recently confirmed to Screen Rant that the remaster won't be showing these brands, and, instead, will be swapped out for more generic, fictional brands.
The reason behind this, according to the report, is the brand deals for the aforementioned companies have since expired. While the remaster won't have these advertisements in-game, there is a rumored Alan Wake 2 said to be in development, which could potentially see new brand deals popping up in the world. Of course, none of these speculations have been confirmed, and the fact that the likes of Verizon or Ford won't appear in the remaster probably won't put too many people off. The representative also said that the music and TV shows from the original will still be in the game, however.
The Alan Wake remaster was officially announced last week, which was quickly followed up by a release date. Many have been pleasantly surprised at how close the announcement has been to the release date, which is now only a few weeks away. It suggests that the studio has been hard at work on it for some time, but it could also mean that talks of a sequel may have actually been about this remaster instead.
Whatever the case may be, 2021 has shaped up to be a good year for horror games, with the likes of Back 4 Blood, Resident Evil Village, and even independent titles such as Chernobylite receiving lots of praise and attention. The Alan Wake remaster may not be the sequel some have been hoping for, but it will give those who missed it the first time round a chance to discover what everyone loved about it. It also means older fans can relive the spooks in Bright Falls.
Alan Wake Remastered will be available for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X on October 5, 2021.
